now playing: i bet on losing dogs by mitski

bakugou brought his lip into his mouth as izumi laid her back against the dirt, the entirety of her jacket coating with dust. to hear her speak so effortlessly ill of herself made his lips dip into a frown. "you never seemed bothered." he murmured, finally dropping his hand from her chin so his arm wouldn't be stretched out. "until recently. it's been eating you alive, hasn't it?"

"i see and hear the dead, you think that doesn't bother me? it fucks me up." izumi shook her head, bringing her hands over her eyes. she sighed heavily. "a double quirk pairing is so rare, one in a million, and i don't want it anymore.

"i dont want it. i can't change the time. the past, i've barely seen the future. and i can't speak with the dead, they just haunt me. i can't do it. katsuki, i'm as good as useless." izumi said. bakugou leaned down next to her, collapsing into the dirt. their shoulders brushed for a moment.

"don't say that." he whispered. he flipped onto his side to be able to take her hands away from her face. "you don't have ahold of your quirks yet, that's okay. that's why we're in the hero course."

izumi turned onto her side to look at him. "and what kind of hero are they training me to be?"

he didn't have an answer for her at first. not one that she would have wanted to hear. with both of the quirks that izumi had been born with, she could have easily been trained to be a weapon. not any type of weapon, like a one off revolver or sword. izumi had the power to become nuclear; she could devour the world in one foul swoop if she allowed herself. she had the hands of a criminal, the smile and voice of a villain, but a heart so pure that nothing else mattered. "you'll be a great hero." bakugou mumbled. "you're just not ready yet."

"i don't know if i'll ever be ready." izumi looked away from him. she focused her eyes to the stars. she settled her arms across her chest. "i'm a hassle to train. shouta does the best he can but sometimes i think i'm out of his range. it's not just something you can learn quickly, how to train me."

"i think," bakugou bit his tongue back for a moment. he closed his eyes in a slow blink before shifting his body to face the sky. "i think you could take the world by storm."

with a small crinkle in her brow, izumi rolled her head to the right. she scoffed as she looked at him. "i think thats you."

"me?" bakugou repeated back to her.

"yeah. you, todoroki, literally half of our class," she said with a soft laugh. "you guys will take this world by storm."

"what makes you so sure that you aren't apart of that group?" bakugou pushed himself up to sit, izumi followed suit. she shrugged her shoulder.

"well, for starters, you have the quirk type," izumi tucked her knees up to her chest again, keeping them close to preserve her body heat. "fire is always a winner, and with you, your quirk is in your sweat. its in your blood. i mean that's pretty impressive."

bakugou pricked his inner cheek with a small smile. "okay, well your quirk is in your voice. your other one is in your mind. anything having to do with time is great."

"you have the power." izumi crossed her arms over her chest.

"you have the range," bakguou argued back, mocking her body language as he crossed his arms. "and you also have the control."

"control?" izumi laughed with her full chest, a raspy coming out due to the state of her throat. "katsuki, you just found me in the woods because i don't have enough control over my body. the only reason you lose control of your quirk is because of your temper."
