Ellouise POV
Black. Everything was black. Where am I? Images started appearing suddenly, and it took a little while for my eyes to adjust. I heard rushed footsteps thunder through the whole house. Mom and Dad told me to run and hide in the secret room under the house. I did as I told, knowing that trouble would come if I didn't listen. I heard my mom scream and the pitter patter of liquid on the floor. My eyes widened and my breathing started to get faster and heavier. I slowly opened the hatch and looked to see if the intruder had left, but all that I saw were three men in black beating my father to death. I gasped and closed the hatch. Why were these men doing these things. Were mommy and daddy bad people? I pulled my knees close to my chest and cried as silently as I could.
"Yes. The deed is done. Johnathon and Elizabeth Porter have been eliminated." One of the voices suddenly spoke, their footsteps walking closer to my hiding place, "No there was nobody else here." Was he talking about me? I started to crawl in the crawl space to get away from the hatch in case he decided to open it. Mom and Dad always had this in case of emergencies, there was an escape route that led outside. I crawled into the corner and cried harder. I could barely breathe, the more I cried the hotter it seemed to get. I smelt smoke and started to cough and panic.
"God if you are listening please......please help me." I looked around for the exit, by the time I found it, the smoke had gotten too strong and I passed out.
I felt the cool midnight air, and my arms were hanging by my side. I couldn't quite open my eyes and it still felt like smoke was in my lungs, I felt someones strong arms carrying me away, I could tell because the smoke smell would get more distanced.
"*cough cough cough*" I finally was able to open my eyes, and see that i was right, it was night time and we were far from the house. I panicked because what if this was one of the mean men? I tried to move out of his grip but he only held tighter.
"Ellouise, it's going to be okay, you are safe now. I'm not going to let go." The mans deep voice rang through my head, he smelled like warm mint and chocolate. He sounded scared and worried, but still loving and protective. I relaxed and wrapped my arms around the man tighter.
"H-how do you kn-know my na-na-name?" I stuttered as the cold nipped at my bare arms and legs.
He huffed out a puff of his hot breath and looked down at me. His brown hair falling in front of his blue eyes. "Me and my.......friends, we have been watching over you, protecting you." He looked away from me and we continued down the dirt path. "Leon." I looked at him puzzled as he spoke the simple one word. "My name. My names Leon.....um.....Hendrikson."
I shivered and nodded slowly. Leon must've noticed because he took his jacket off and draped it over me. "Th-thank you." I closed my eyes and was immediately enveloped in his warmth and sweet scent.
