''Good evening, miss. I'm Jr. Detective Kojiro and I'd like to ask you some questions about the doctor named Gorou Amemiya, who went missing three years ago. May I come in?''
The woman appears to be turning gears in her head, as she was slow to follow up on my question, ''O-Oh, sure! Please come in.'' She moved out of the way, watching as I set my foot on her wooden floor. She took a silent breath as she closed the door behind me alerting those inside a new person had just set in their home.
The living room was very simplistic, the only irregular feature being the twins sitting on the couch, jerking their eyes toward me as I laid my coat on a chair.
The short woman behind me tugged on my sleeve, taking my attention. ''Would you like something to drink?'' I shook my head slowly, causing the woman to frown a little in response.
''I will just be asking you some questions, Ai Hoshino.'' I reminded her, plopping myself down on one of the chairs at her dining table. She looked at me with shock, not expecting me to know her family name. Curiously, the male of the twins looked to understand the significance of what I just said. My eyes gazed at the boy, locking eye contact. What an intelligent child.
Ai sat in the chair opposite mine. I pull out my notebook, catching the attention of the nervous woman, ''There's no need to be nervous. I'm only asking you questions that could relate to the case. I'd like you to not question the questions asked, as it would hinder the case. Answer truthfully, and only the truth.''
Of course, I'm not speaking the entire truth. I first have to establish what changes in her posture and facial expressions when she lies.
I pulled out my phone, clicking 'Record' as I place it on the table. She gulps anxiously, awaiting the first question, ''Is your name, Ai Hoshino.''
''Yes.'' As my gaze scans the woman effectively straightens herself, appearing more confident when telling the truth, ''...Next question,''
''Could you tell me your occupation, Hoshino.''
''I'm an Idol, Detective. Though, I'm more leaning toward being a social media star nowadays. Hehehe-'' She scratches behind her head, looking at me with a goofy smile.
''Moving on... At a young age, your mother was arrested for theft and robbery,'' I remain a dull expression, with no shred of emotion showing sympathy for the girl. Ai tenses up, appearing uncomfortable with where I'm going, ''Is this true?''
Her mood darkens, as the stars in her eyes blacken in color, forcefully keeping up a smile. ''Yes.''
That's a messed-up look... I feel sorry. So much so, it's giving me a headache...
My eyes gaze back towards the twins, both of them worried for their mother as if they've just seen an ugly monster. This lights a spark in my head, giving me new material for my next question, ''I will move on from the personal questions after this.''
Pointing my pen at the couch, her shift gazes towards her children, who look at me with intense rage. Their hearts were pounding, and thoughts seemed to race through their head. They probably want me to vanish from the earth. Intelligent brats.
''Do you love your children?''
As if I had set off a fuse, Ai looked at me with intense confusion, horror, and regret. Curiously, she remained quiet for a while, until she parted her lips, ''I.........'
