000.5 PROLOGUE

THE DAY  the first in line to the Driftmark throne came into the world, while filled with the howling screams of her mother, the babe didn't make a peep. There was much concern with this after the many complications Rhaenys had during her term.

When the historic hatching of the runt egg laying next to her in Aethanys' cradle ten moon cycles after her birth, the concern of her lack of babe babble ceased. If the dragon egg hatched, it had to mean she would thrive, right?

She finally uttered her first whispers when her younger brother, Laenor, was brought into the world, albeit more noise from the babe. With this milestone, she was finally introduced to her cousin, Princess Rhaenyra, and the two became fast friends. The two girls were often seen running through the Red Keep hand in hand with Aethanys whispering secrets into Rhaenyra's ear and the latter boisterously laughing out. As the two grew older, Rhaenyra closer to Alicient, and Aethanys quietly whispering nonsense in the eyes of her peers, the relationship between House Targaryen and House Velaryon grew more tense.

"To elude a storm, you can either sail into it or around it, but you must never await its coming..."
