Prologue
——

Y/n was a bright young girl. She always looked forward to helping others around village. Seeing others get the help they needed brought joy to her kind soul.

It was expected when the Matsuda family gave birth to a young girl. That family was quite different than the rest. Although they seemed like the perfect family to others, what went on inside the walls was like no other.

Vases and dinnerware were constantly being broken. The sound of yelling that came from that house could be heard throughout the whole town, yet everyone minded their own business.

Yet that all stopped when Y/n was born. The yelling stopped. The Matsuda family looked happier. The older brother of Y/n, Kenji, finally had a little bit of life in his eyes.

Kenji never looked like he was ever harmed. No bruises or cuts were seen anywhere. The only time he was seen at the doctors was when he fell upon sickness. Yet the look of distress was always painted over his face.

Y/n was special. A rare type of beauty they would say. The whole Matsuda family had deep black hair, but Y/n, her hair was the deepest of the blues; An unnatural shade of hair.

It was said she would grow to be one of the finest women out there. Even more beautiful than the prettiest of orians of her time.

That prediction was correct.

Y/n started getting gifted presents because of her beauty at the young age of 7. From pins, to kimonos, and eventually food was a common gift.

Y/n was not always welcoming about all the gifts. She never liked all of the attention. It was as she grew up in the spotlight of her village. Like an art statue waiting to be seen by thousands.

Normally, Y/n would keep the things she desired most. If a beautiful hair pin came her way, she would often keep it to herself. Or when she was in dire need of a new kimono, she would reluctantly accept the seamstresses proposals of such.

But, when she knew she didn't need it or it was not something she desired. Y/n would give it to those in need. She would often give the girl across the street new hair pins every so often. She would also give the poor in the village some food to live off of.

Y/n was an angel sent from heaven they would say. A selfless angel who always put others before herself. Yet this came to a halt when she was only 11 years old.

Y/n's parents had started arguing with one another yet again. Everyone thought they were cured when their angel of a daughter came into the world. But everything is only temporary.

One night, the Matsuda family came crumbling down. Her parents arguing back and forth. The claims of cheating and behavior changes were thrown around.

Kenji was only 16 at the time. He wasn't sure what he should do. All her knew was he needed to shelter his little sister from the scene of their two parents.

He quickly grabbed the 11 year old girl and rushed to a nearby friends house. It was late, he didn't know if he could even stay there. But, it was better to try than give up right away.

The two were able to seek shelter at the friends house. Kenji not being to sleep, staying up worried. While the young beauty fell fast asleep. She wasn't sure what was going on.

The warm light of the sun soon shone through the window. Gesturing that it was time for the Matsuda siblings to leave.

When the two fell upon the the porch of the house, Kenji noticed the house was empty. The only sign of his parents being there were the smashed vases on the floor.

The siblings cleaned the house up, waiting for their parents to show up and take care of them like they always did. But soon a week passed and no sign of the Matsuda parents showed up.

It was only then Kenji and Y/n realized they were on their own. A 16 year old now held the complete responsibility of taking care of his younger sister. He was scared, yet he had a feeling this would happen. But it happened sooner than he imagined.

The bright girl Y/n was known to be soon faded. She became more closed off, only relying on herself and her brother. She knew not to trust anyone as they will eventually leave her too.

Y/n would still give the gifts she got to everyone around her. Even though her personality was not as cheerful than it was, she still never put herself over others.

She dedicated her life to make sure everyone around her was happy. Even if it meant she was not the happiest herself.

She promised that.
