My dad and I woke up early the next morning to finally get Bella and bring her home. I was nervous but I could sense that he was even more nervous than me, so I kept quiet and calm. The drive was quiet, and felt like it took 10 years.
Once we arrived at the airport we looked all around for her, until we finally picked her out of the crowd. I could see that she was still looking around trying to find us as well.
Seeing her felt so weird, I hadn't seen her face to face since she was like 11. Now she was nearing 18 and looked like an actual grown up woman. I looked to my dad and I could see on his face that he was feeling the same.
It was funny how we shared some definite features, but still had some individual aspects. But we were undeniably sisters, anybody would be able to tell.
She saw us shortly after we found her, making eye contact from afar. I smiled big at her, truly happy to get to see her again, but also wanting to make her feel more comforted. She smiled lightly in return.
Once she made her way over to us I offered her a hug and she gave me a slight one back, Charlie and her shared a somehow even more awkward half hug afterwards. Deciding to ignore and move on from the awkwardness, we walked to get her bags.
"So how was the flight?" My dad asked.
"It was fine. Nothing too exciting, I guess," Bella replied.
I took one look at their clearly uncomfortable faces and decided not to add to anymore small talk, I could save that for the car.
Once we got back to the car and Charlie helped her get her bags in, I fulfilled my mental promise of bombarding them both with my killer small talk skills. Truly a one in a million level of expertise.
Throughout the car ride, I did more talking than probably the two of them combined. But now I know the answers to basic questions about her. Her favorite color, least favorite food, favorite song, all that. It was easy to remember, since the answer to all of those questions was "oh, um, I'm not really sure."
So we're basically best friends now
When we got back home I soon saw two cars pull into the driveway. One was the same car I've seen at Billy Black's house when I pass by it, and the other was an older-looking red truck I didn't recognize. As expected, Billy and two young guys got out of the cars.
Dad quickly greeted Billy and said his hello's to his sons. They looked close in age, closer than Bella and me. The younger one seemed about my age, and the older one had to have been a bit older than me, but couldn't have been any older than Bella.
If I'm being honest, I think Tristan downplayed them a bit. They were definitely both cute. A little goofy looking but that kinda adds to the appeal.
"Hey V, hi Bella." Billy said, smiling and waving at both of us.
"So, did you guys get a new car or something?" I asked, pointing to the red truck
Billy and Charlie laughed, "Nope," Billy said, "My boys fixed this up as a welcoming gift for Bella."
Bella's face lit up, "Really? Oh my god this is perfect thank you!"
"And of course, it's for you too," my dad said to me
We all just smiled and Charlie walked over to Billy and started a conversation I immediately knew would last a while.
This meant awkward introductions for us. Yippee.
"Uh hey, I'm Aiden," the younger one said to break the silence, "I don't think I've ever met either of you really."
"I'm Jacob," The older one piped up, "You and me used to make mud pies when we were younger," he said to Bella.
