(A few days later- January)
The airport was bustling with many people in crowds. Families being parted and reunited. Four people stood out with their families surrounding them.
Hikari was listening to her mother's warnings about several things and her sisters' experience about the said country she was going. "Now don't go running off to places that are strange. In fact, don't go out too late at night. And don't forget to brush your teeth. Make sure to go to the toi--," Hikari turned a bright shade of red and stopped her mother from saying more embarrassing things.
"Ok, Kaa-san. I get it! Now please, don't embarrass me even more. I have to board soon," she frantically tried to stop her mother. There were other people around her. She doesn't want the two boys to hear that. She would die of embarrassment.
"Fine, now just remember to call us time to time. Knowing you, you would forget it," Hikari gave a sheepish smile. Her eldest sister, Rika, who is 22 years older than her, and her preteen daughter, Sakura, were explaining this on what to expect from America.
"Be aware that not everywhere you is safe. It would be better if you in big crowds," Rika explained. Sakura was just texting on her phone. Hikari smiled and nodded. She patted Sakura's like back then. Sakura looked up and smiled. And then, went back to her texting. A little girl around 7 looked bored. She pulled her sister's sleeve. "Nee-chan, can Kaa-chan and Baa-san hurry up. It's boring here," she frowned. "We have to wait till Hikari-oba-san boards her plane,Hana," said Sakura. The two siblings went back to what they were doing.
----
"Be a good boy and don't cause any trouble for your foster family. Don't go slacking off," said Takeshi's mom said sternly. Takeshi gave her a half-hearted grin. "Of course, Kaa-san. Wouldn't dream of it," he looked at his little sister. "Hey, aren't you going goodbye or hug me?" She glanced at him from her phone. "Sure. Bye," she said monotonously and returned to her phone. Takeshi deadpanned at her.
"You and your phone. Both of you two would make a great couple," he said sarcastically. Miyuri nodded. "Mhm...," she hummed as she continued texting. Takeshi sighed as he shifted his things.
------
Hanaku was arguing with her older brother, Kenta. "Stop pushing me! I'm gonna fall," she growled. Kenta made a childish face. "Whatever... Be sure to bring back souvenirs. Unlike last time..." He rolled his eyes dramatically. Hanaku pushed him, making him fall flat on his bum. The eldest, Kana, sighed at the younger two. "When will I ever get married and leave these two brats?" She pleaded the skies. The two younger siblings ignored her.
The parents just stood from the side as they were used to their children's tiring antics. "Do you think Hanaku would be able to mature herself?" Her mother said to Hanaku's father. The man looked blankly at his wife. His wife responded the blank face with one of her own. The looked back at their annoying children.
"No," they both said.
--------
Koji's mother placed a comforting arm on his shoulder. "Do the best for the family. Don't you dare try anything suspicious. I can sniff you out," she said. Koji just nodded. Not smiling. Not even showing a hint of emotion. It kind of made the other three look at him weirdly.
"Understood, Okaa-san," his tone was as robotic as his face. It worried his mother.
'Oh Koji...' She was worried that he would encounter trouble with that attitude. She could only pray for the best of her only son. She doesn't want to unintentionally cause any trouble.
-------
"All passengers of Flight JY0019 to America, please board the airplane. I repeat..."
Hikari felt her palm getting sweaty. She wiped them off her pants and took a deep breath.
Her grin didn't reach her eyes as nervous feelings crawled up. She felt a hand on her shoulder. Her mother was giving her a serious yet soft look.
"Don't be nervous. I've done much more nerve wrecking things that you would ever have. Now... remember what I always say?" Hikari rolled her eyes.
"Always be confident. I know. I know," but it did help ease her mind at the normalcy.
She closed the gap between her and her mother. She hugged tightly, slightly bending over for her shorter mother. "Aish... don't slouch like that, it'll ruin your back."
"I know... I'm gonna miss you. Take care," she murmured. She got a pat on the back as a comforting response.
She released her mother and tugged the travel bag. She walked towards the boarding line with the other three students who were bidding their farewells.
"Bye-bye! I promise that I'll try to remember to call!" She giggled. Hanaku joined her after escaping her roughhousing family. "Ready to go?" She glanced at Kouji and Takeshi, the latter sparing her a wave while the other didn't bother to acknowledge her.
"Not ready all," she smirked.
"Let's bullshit our way through this program!"
