District Court

Courtroom No. 1

"Court shall now reconvene." the judge announced. "Prosecutor Cruz, did you manage to locate Sharke Finn?"

"As a matter of fact, yeah." Prosecutor Cruz replied. "He's here an' ready to talk, as the defence requested."

"Very well. Please bring the witness to the stand!"

Mr. Finn left the gallery and strolled up to the witness stand, his beloved guitar strapped to his back.

"Name an' occupation, if ya please." the prosecutor requested.

"My name is Sharke Finn." the musician introduced himself. "I'm the head vocalist in The Seven Sea Pirates."

Prosecutor Cruz glanced at me, grinning. "Well? Go ahead. You're the one who called this witness!"

I sighed, but ignored his comment and turned to the witness. "Mr. Finn," I started. "The court would like to hear what you were doing before the crime took place."

"Uh, okay, sure..." Mr. Finn replied, rather confused.

-Witness Testimony-

-Before the Crime-

"After the last song finished, I went back to my room to clean, polish and tune my guitar."

"It... sometimes goes out of tune because it quickly gathers dust, so I have to clean it almost daily."

"That's when I heard that everyone was looking for Sebastian, so I decided to help out."

"When we got to his room... that's when we saw the defendant standing over his body."

"When the police finally got there, they arrested the defendant, believing she killed him."

"I see..." the judge muttered. "Your story is the same as that... other witness we heard yesterday."

(Hmm... I wonder...)

I turned to Mr. Morix. "Can I try something, sir?" I asked.

"What have you got in mind?" he replied.

"Just now, I heard something out of place in this testimony... but it wasn't a normal contradiction."

"... Oh, right. You did say you studied psychology for a few years. So, you heard an emotion that shouldn't be there?"

"Exactly. I'm not quite sure what it means yet, but if I point it out to the court, maybe we can figure it out."

(I'll cross-examine Mr. Finn... and point out the contradictions in his emotions! I just have to listen...)

-Cross-Examination ~ Psychological Analysis-

*GOT IT!*

"Mr. Finn..." I started, confident of what I was doing. "If you don't mind me asking, why do you feel a certain amount of joy and relief in your last statement?"
