District Court

Defendant Lobby No.1

"I'm confident we'll win today!" Ms. Shield announced. "We've got all the proof we need."

I didn't respond, and neither did Mr. Matsuzaki. Yesterday was still on our minds.

(Is this... really the right thing to do? If Ms. Akira really committed the crime... Mr. Matsuzaki will lose his sister...)

"Um..." Mr. Matsuzaki began. "If it helps, I don't mind how the trial ends today, if you get what I mean?"

"You mean you don't mind your own sister being arrested for murder?" I asked, slightly taken aback.

"Well, I don't really mean it like that. I just... I just know she has to pay the consequences."

(True, but...)

"Hey, guys, it's about time." Ms. Shield informed us. "We should head into court."

I exchanged a glance with Mr. Matsuzaki before following Ms. Shield into the courtroom.

District Court

Courtroom No. 1

"Court is now in session for the trial of Matsuzaki Taikan." His Honour announced. "Is the defense ready?"

"Yes, Your Honour." I replied.

"Very good. And the prosecution?"

"Yep, ready to roll, Gramps." Prosecutor Cruz said.

"Very well. Yesterday, I granted both sides one more day of investigation. Did anything new turn up?"

"Well, we found a witness." Prosecutor Cruz explained. "She said she 'eard somethin' around the time of the murder."

His Honour nodded. "Your witness may take the stand, Prosecutor Cruz."

Seconds later, soft footsteps could be heard echoing throughout the courtroom as Ms. Akira took the stand.

"Please state your name and occupation, witness." His Honour requested.

"My name is Akira Taikan." Ms. Akira clapsed her hands together, her blonde hair flowing in the non-existent breeze. "I am a-"

"Spirit medium. We get it." Prosecutor Cruz cut her off.

"... Yes, that is what I am."

"Mind tellin' the court what you heard and exactly why you did nothin' about it?"

"Y-Yes, sir..."

(Hmm... I can't be the only one who notices this: in court, Prosecutor Cruz is quite serious and even intimidating. However, outside of court, he truly is unbearable...!)

-Witness Testimony-

-What I Witnessed-

"I-I was upstairs, on the seventh floor cleaning when this tragedy occured."

"I... I heard Omaya scream! I was confused, so I didn't move at all."

"After a few minutes, I decided to go downstairs to check on the situation."

"That's when I went downstairs and discovered that Maekawa was already there..."

"... staring at Omaya's body... and at my brother."

"The defendant is your brother?" the judge asked. "I'm sorry to hear he is under suspicion of such a heinous crime."

I heard a whistle come from the prosecution. Glancing over at him, he nodded at the witness expectantly.
