Stefan Salvatore was standing on the roof of the Salvatore Boarding House, watching the sunrise and listening to the sound of crows cawing.

Stefan: (voiceover) "For over a century, I have lived in secret. Until now. I shouldn't have come home. I know the risk, but I had no choice."

Elena Gilbert was sitting on the window seat in her bedroom, writing in her journal.

Stefan: (voiceover) "I have to know her."

Students were standing on the grounds of Mystic Falls High School, walking around and socializing before class.

Stefan and Christian Salvatore walked across the field.

A STRANGER

"Man, take off the glasses," Christian said. "You look like Edward Cullen."

Stefan removed his sunglasses. "Who's Edward Cullen?"

Christian gave him an incredulous look.

Elena, Sofia Gilbert and Bonnie Bennett stopped outside the office, seeing Christian and Stefan.

"Hold up," Bonnie said. "Who's that with Christian?"

"All I see is back," Elena said.

"It's a hot back," Bonnie replied.

Sofia chuckled.

"I'm sensing Seattle and he plays the guitar," Bonnie told them.

Sofia looked at her.

Stefan was wearing a Daylight Ring.

[Song ends]

The school secretary, Mrs. Clarke was looking at a file. "Your records are incomplete and we do insist on transcripts."

Stefan took off his sunglasses, compelling her. "Look again. I'm sure everything you need is there."

Mrs. Clarke stared at Stefan in a daze before looking at the file again. "Oh, you're right."

Christian shook his head, scoffing in annoyance.

"Please be hot," Bonnie said.

Stefan and Christian turned around to leave the office, stopping as soon as they saw Sofia and Bonnie.

"Hey, Christian," Sofia greeted him with a smile. "Who's your friend?"

Stefan and Christian exchanged a look.

"Oh, this is my cousin, Stefan," Christian told them.

A SECRET

Brooke Fenton looked scared as she called out for her boyfriend. "Darren?"

Darren Malloy's body fell on top of the hood of the car.

Brooke turned around, seeing he had puncture marks from a bite on his neck, and screamed in horror.

Stefan was in his bedroom, putting on a shirt.

Zach Salvatore walked in, holding a newspaper. "You promised."

Stefan grabbed the newspaper and saw the article on the front page. 'BODIES FOUND MUTILATED BY ANIMAL'.

"You said you had it under control," Zach said.

"And I do," Stefan stated, handing him back the newspaper.
