Chapter one: What is happiness?

The sunlight started to shine through the small window of my bedroom. Today was a happy day, its my birthday. It has been 6 years since my birth mother gave me to Mary,Charles and Kirito. It was the best choice my birth mother ever made. We started to live in a big castle just outside Silverwoods. The castle is also the first packhouse for the wolfs. Charles became the king of wolfs with Mary as his queen/luna. Kirito is their son but nobody outside our pack knows he exists. The reason why nobody knows is because a male could only take over the throne and become king. When a wolf turns 18 they can find their mates. Mates are the same as soulmates. You only have one and you spend the rest of your life with your mate. The wolf inside you will be full grown when you turn 18. Thats also when you start to hear your wolf inside your head. With my wolf its different. I already hear my wolfs voice in my head and I am not 18. My wolfs voice is soft and sweet. She helped me through every hard time I had over the past six years. Because only men could take over the throne Kirito was not safe. Other people will do anything to take the throne. But if they only knew that the throne was never his to begin with but that it was mine by birth. Today is my sixth birthday. It was early in the morning but I could already smell the food and cake that the packmembers are making. Our pack name is The Moonlight Royals. Everybody respects us and we lived in peace with other wolfs who started a pack for themselfs.
I looked to the otherside of the room and saw Kirito waking up. I rushed over to him and jumped on his bed. "Wake up sleepyhead. Its my birthday" I say while laughing. His eyes started to open. He looked at me and smiled so bright. I stopped jumping and let myself fall next to him. "Today will be a big day maybe we can play outside today" I say to him. I looked at him but he turned his head to the otherside. With a quick swing I jumped on him and saw the tears in his eyes. "Why are you crying?" I ask. He looked at me and said with a crack in his voice " you know I can only stay in the palace its too dangerous outside for me. Mom and dad will never let me go outside." Hearing that made me sad. So I grabbed his hand and say " lets not think about that and have breakfast first. After breakfast we will find a way to go outside together." Kirito and I walked downstairs. We are greeted by all the packmembers who are in the packhouse today. We almost run to the kitchen when we smelled the delicious food.
After breakfast we run upstairs to shower and get dressed so we could go and see our parents. After we are done we walked hand in hand to the study. We saw Charles talking to another alpha. Alpha's are the leaders from other packs. We knew that if Charles was talking with other alphas we where not alowed inside the study. We waited till the other alpha left the room and rushed inside and climb on Charles's lap. " you two are getting to big to jump on my lap" he said with a big smile on his face. " Are you excited about your birthday party tonight?" He ask me while he looked at me with big happy eyes. I nod my head. I was so ready to have cake and see everybody with smiles and happiness on their faces. "Now go play I need to do some work before the party begins" he smiled and let us down. We run upstairs and play till the evening came. That night I was getting my most beautifull gown out of my closet when i started to hear my wolf Luca. " be carefull tonight sweety. Something is wrong I can feel it." The fear in her voice made me so scared. She never warned me before like this. The fear was gone really fast when Kirito grabbed my hand and took me downstairs. " happy birthday princess" everybody said when we walked down the stairs. I looked around  the room and felt a warm feeling inside of me. I was truely happy and I thought nothing could take that away. After two hours of shaking hands and opening presents I started to feel alot of fear inside me. It was coming from Luca my wolf. While confused I look around for Kirito. When I saw him I took his hand and say " lets go outside a little. It will be our secret." He looked at me with joy in his eyes and noded his head. We walked outside and started to play. After a hour we started to get tired and headed to go inside to the party again. My wolf screamed " run Katherine. Fast before its to late." Before I could think or do anything I hear screams coming from inside the palace. I looked at Kirito who started to look very pale. Before I know what I should do I run inside and was not ready for what I saw. I wished I never ran inside because the first thing I saw while running inside was a gigantic black dragon covered in blood. Everywhere I looked was filled with blood and people that lay dead on the ground. My hands started to shake while my eyes scan the room for Charles and Mary. With one swing Kirito pushed me to the door and screamed "run". Thats when I saw that Charles and Mary where infront of the dragon. Kirito ran to his parents and stands behind them. "Where is she" screams the dragon. "If you dont give me the girl I will burn all of you and your palace to the ground." "If you want her you need to go through us first." Charles looked at the dragon and within seconds he and Mary turned into two giant white wolfs. "I dont care if your the King of Wolfs. I will kill you all if I dont get what I want." The dragon lifted his gigantic claw and before it hits them Mary looked at me and said "We love you so much princess. Run and never look back. Stay hidden and safe. We will always be with you." Tears were running down my cheek when I saw the claw of the dragon kill Mary. After he killed Mary he took a deep breath and fire started to come out of his mouth. Burning everything and everyone around him. The dragon turned to me and I saw his blood red eyes. I will never forget those eyes. Without thinking I ran as fast as I could without looking back at the burning palace I called home. The place where I found happiness. In my head I kept thinking was this all a dream?. Please let it all be a dream but deep down I knew that today I lost everything I ever loved and had.
