KLAUS SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT HIS DAUGHTER WOULD BE KIND. Of course she would. She was perfect in every way, and one couldn't be perfect without being kind. All it took was the little wolf asking for help and she was nodding her head and smiling politely, promising to do so by any means necessary.

But her kindness didn't make sense to him. Surely, being a Mikaelson, she should've been mean, selfish and arrogant. Even if he wasn't there to make her that way, she possessed his traits to some standard and the untriggered wolf within her ensured anger issues in some manner━even if she didn't showcase it. He at least thought he would have been able to smell some annoyance at Hayley's interruption, but it was nothing but a little bit of nervousness at having to talk to new people; which, in itself, was adorable.

Perhaps it was just his absence that made her such a good person. Perhaps if he had been there, raising her by his values and giving her everything she could desire, she would've fit the Mikaelson characteristics perfectly. Perhaps him being there, a nonsensical abomination, then the smile on her face would've been an uninviting scowl. Perhaps he never should've come back for her, no matter how much his heart yearned for his daughter, because in doing so, he had practically fated her to a life of horror and trauma. Perhaps they should leave now, before she approached them with her beautiful eyes and soft voice because after that, after he had gotten a glimpse of what his life could be with her in it, he'd never lea━

Hope bid her friends goodbye before slugging a bag over her shoulder and stalking closer to them, the grin on her face becoming a little more forced due to her anxiousness. Still, it wrinkled at her dimples, and Klaus couldn't help but find his own lips tugging up in the exact same manner because hey, they had the same smile.

In fact, in the three minutes he had been with her, he realized they shared a lot in common. Or, more accurately, she shared a lot in common with his human side, before he had turned. For one, she was easily awkward. Though she had yet to speak to them, he could already smell the unease on her and he knew from his own experience that it came from a certain introverted-ness, sprouting from new interactions with strangers. When he was younger, the idea of speaking with someone outside his family was daunting.

Another thing they shared was their sarcasm. Her and Stiles━if he had heard the name right, but he doubted it, because in his millennium alive, he'd never heard such a strange name before━had bickered so familiarly, much like him and Elijah did every day; and the insults that spewed from her lips, lighthearted, were so quick and witty. She had definitely adopted his sense of taunting.
