* LUKES POV *

I held on to the pink headed boy and helped him sprint down the hallway until we got to the boys locker room.
Luckily, it was empty.
I helped him sit down on the bench and we both looked at his reflection in the mirror, his cheek was turning purple and his lip was slightly busted.
I was in a panic and I didn't know what to do.
" I- I- I'll get you a tissue! " I slightly yelled trying not to show how much I was panicking.
I walked over to the paper towel dispenser and put it under the tap to wet it a little bit.
I padded the wet tissue on his busted lip and attempted to clean the blood off his lip.
I looked up at him and he looked back at me, our eyes locked.
" Thanks... " he mumbled.
I didn't reply, I just nodded my head.
" So... What the fuck happened? " I said to him as gently as I could, still trying to hide how shocked I was.
He looked away and glance at the floor.
" Ugh. You can't tell anyone about this... Yeah? " he said to me in a quiet tone.
I was confused, why is he telling me a secret?
I blankly stared at him, I'm not good at keeping secrets, but this boy needs someone to be there for him.
" Yeah. " I replied, unsure of what he was about to tell me.
" I'm Gender-Fluid. " he whispered to me.
The locker room went silent. I stared at him. I had no idea what he was talking about.
" What's Gender-Fluid?... " I mumbled. I didn't want him to think I was stupid for not knowing what it was.
He rolled his eyes at me.
" It means I switch genders, one day I'll be a boy, one day I'll be a girl, some days I'll be both, and some days I'll be none ect. " he said.
I still didn't understand. I stared at him blankly again. I didn't know how to reply.
" So, am I the only one who knows you aren't a " boy " ?? " I whispered.
He gave me a stare, as if I did something wrong.
" Well, Firstly, it's they/them mate, and secondly, no. You're the only one I've told. " he said to me.
I was beginning to understand. Honestly, I had no idea what to say. I didn't want to say anything offensive and I didn't want to make them feel bad for not acting supportive.
" I'm cool with that. " I said.
They smiled slightly.
The door opened and someone walked in, it was one of the crowd that were helping beat them up.
They quickly looked over to the door and watched them walk to the showers.
They mouthed " Thank you " to me and began to stand up.
I helped them off the bench and one again held onto their waist.
After a little bit of struggle we made it out the door and I helped them stumble to their locker.
When we finally reached it we stared at eachother again. I didn't want to leave them alone, I didn't want them to be caught off guard by that crowd again.
" What class do you have next? " I asked them.
" Math... Why? " they asked back to me.
" I'm walking you there. " I replied to them, they didn't reject but they pulled a face at me.
The bell rang, and we walked to their class. They began to walk fine and they didn't need me to hold onto their waist for balance anymore.
We got to the front of their classroom door and they glanced up at me.
" So, coffee after classes? " I asked them.
They glanced a smile and nodded happily.
" Alright, see ya later. " I said to them.
I began to slowly walk away but I didn't want to take my eyes off them. I began to leave the school building and I looked back at their classroom to see if they were still there, and they were looking at me from out the classroom window.
I smiled, and they smiled back.
As I walked off I kept reminding myself, " They/Them, They/Them, They/Them.... " repeatedly.
I walked to my next class, Science...
