BEYONCÉ KNOWLES
January 11th , 2022
HOUSTON, TXi didn't know that woman i met the other night, but once i got to, she was perfect. i loved everything about her. the way she spoke, her demeanor, her style, her lips, her eyes, her dimples-
"beyoncé? i'm not just speaking to myself, am i?" my new work partner, robyn, snapped me out of my thoughts.
"i apologize, fenty, i was thinking about something." i looked at her.
"yeah, no shit. you didn't hear anything i said?"
i shook my head no in response.
"i said that the mayor is coming into the station today for some paperwork. i'll be gone so you'll need to make sure she gets it all." she repeated herself.
"okay.." i nodded and went back to my office. i sat down and sighed, the woman returning to my thoughts. i wish i got to know more about her but the dinner together was impromptu and we are strangers. she didn't know anything about me either.
i was brought out of my thoughts as the click of heels echoed throughout the building besides the chatter of other people around. the figure that stood in the middle of the room was familiar. i furrowed my brows but didn't think of anything.
"well, it's nice to see you again." i heard that familiar voice.
it's her.
i looked up and was met with the same eyes from the other night. "oh, hello, it's nice to see you again too. what can i help you with?" i flashed a smile.
she gave me a tight smile. "im just here for paperwork, dear, nothing friendly."
well damn. rude much?
"oh! you're the mayor. i didn't know that." i stood up, i walked over to the file cabinet and pulled out the stack of papers. i made sure they were all she needed then passed them to the woman.
"here you go, miss.."
"maraj. miss maraj." she finished for me.
"thank you. miss maraj. have a good one."
she nodded then walked out of the office. her attitude wasn't great but it made her intriguing to me. i finally got focused on my work and got it completed. i did leave work later than i usually did but that was alright.
"soo did you see the mayor?" i was asked by robyn.
we were facetiming each other. me from my laptop and her from her ipad. even though i had only been here for a short time, robyn and i have become pretty close.
"i did. apparently i've met her already." i said casually. robyn eyed me weirdly.
"how'd you meet the mayor already?" she asked with a raised brow.
"impromptu dinner we shared. just was being a nice stranger. but we never disclosed personal information about each other." i shrugged.
"so you just- casually met the meanest woman on earth? and act like it's nothing?" she was flabbergasted.
i laughed and nodded. "yeah, i did. she wasn't so bad that night. i mean she was better than how she was today. her attitude was nasty, real nasty. but it also made me want to talk to her more."
robyn shook her head. "don't, knowles. she's not a good person. like- at all. she's fired so many people simply because they've looked at her wrong. i remember she fired this woman for pronouncing her name incorrectly."
i was confused. "how do you pronounce it?"
"i don't know! i've never tried because i feel like she might find out i've said it wrong and fire me." she was dead serious.
i just shook my head. "okay, well, maybe i'll find out and can try it myself." i smiled.
"sure, sweet cheeks. i'm going to bed though so i'll see you in the morning." she yawned.
"goodnight, rob."
"goodnight, sherriff." i hung up the call.
i leaned back in my bed and thought about the mayor. i really had no business thinking about her so intensively but i was. i didn't hate it though, just curious as to why my little brain cells keep fighting to keep her in my thoughts.
eventually i dozed off, peacefully sleeping and dreaming away.
