The Doctor sat on the steps of a boarded up shop, left abandoned by past owners. He had escaped as quickly and as far as he could. Once far enough, he decided he would rest.
It had been a while since Alchemy had blacked out. Probably from too much stress and fear. Being chased by a crazy ex isn't easy, after all.
She lay still beside him, covered with his cloak. This revealed his casual clothing; a long sleeve, white collared shirt tucked into long, black pants. Boots. His gloves. Of course, his mask was still on. It felt weird with everything showing, however he knew that there was pretty much no one here to see him.
Almost no one.
If he was going to get him and Alchemy out of here, surely they had to fight this "crazy ex". If he and whoever else had come to take her, they weren't getting away so easily without a swift hit or a "stern talking to". However, The Doctor didn't think the talking would be enough. It would be like scolding a disobedient child, except the child was insane and wanted to physically get their hands on someone smaller than them.
Yet, what about getting away without confronting them? Would that be possible? I mean, sure, all they would have to do was locate the edge of town and boom. Out. Right? Yet, this town is in the middle of nowhere with no citizens living in it. Plus, if they did get out, would the ex and his group follow? They had weapons. The Doctor was positive about it. Duuh, the arrows. The message. A threat.
It sickened him to know that the ex wanted Alchemy back, when he was the problem.
Right?
Then it occurred to him. A thought that.. shouldn't have crossed his mind, especially with how violent the ex himself seemed.
What if Alchemy was the original problem? What if this was some sort of sick revenge plan? Did she do something absolutely terrible to gain this type of reaction from the ex? Is she just playing around? Acting? Faking?
The Doctor's eyes drifted to her still body. Well, she was moving a little more than she was before, but still seemingly out like a light. Hopefully it won't be too long before she wakes. In the meantime, it was time to devise a plan. Find weapons or self defense items, find the group, and boom. Battle, I guess. It was no use waiting for them for too long, it was more dangerous that way. They could ambush and surely injure or Hell, even kill them. And no offense to the poor girl, but Alchemy wasn't necessarily the strongest lady around. Physically or..er..emotionally. Mentally. She would get there with improvement and help, he finally concluded. They would rest for a little while until they were both stable (mainly Alchemy), then get set.
The Doctor prayed that once everything was handled, it would be all over. However, that isn't how it usually worked, to his unfortune.
❝Doctor?❞ He jumped at the sudden voice.
❝Alchemy! I didn't expect you awake so soon. Are you alright? How do you feel?❞
❝I'm okay, just feeling a little funny. Tired. Are we..safe? Are they gone?❞
The Doctor hesitated before answering, ❝..Yes. For now, however, we need to plan something. We cannot just keep running forever, we must leave eventually. Don't you agree?❞
❝I agree. I wanted to leave and I still do. This place is a living nightmare.❞
❝Good, that'd be best. Imagine how worried your family must be with you missing, Alchemy. Your friends..❞
Alchemy frowned at this, but suddenly looked up with a grim yet curious expression.
❝Doctor? Does he have The Disease?❞
This caught him by surprise. A lot of surprise.
❝What? I'm a little stunned you'd ask that.❞
❝You were the one who brought it up in the first place. Said I didn't have it. I was lucky.❞
❝I-.. cannot remember. The event was so sudden, I didn't get a feel for it. If we encounter them for longer, I'd be able to tell you.❞
❝What would you do if they did?❞
❝Oh, Alchemy..❞
❝I'm just curious! You seemed to think it was a big deal! What's so bad about it? Is it dangerous? Contagious? Fatal?❞
❝Alchemy.❞
❝Why won't you tell me, Doctor?!❞
❝ENOUGH. That is enough. Now is a terrible time to even begin that, you wouldn't understand. No one but people like us would understand. Let me handle it. Please, Alchemy.❞
It was silent.
❝Alchemy, I-❞
❝It's fine, Doctor. Don't worry about it.❞
He nodded, but felt uneasy. Alchemy observed him, before pulling off his cloak around her shoulders and handed it to him. She brushed off the hem of her dress, standing. Something was off about her. The air was uneasy, and despite the air being a bit humid with another batch of oncoming rain to visit soon, The Doctor felt cold.
❝Are you just going to sit there?❞
❝Pardon?❞
❝You heard me.❞
❝I didn't expect you to be ready. You just woke up, Alchemy, having this much energy is unlike you. It's odd. Are you sure you're feeling alright? We can rest for a little bit before we actually go.❞
❝Positive. The exit isn't going to find itself, is it?❞
❝Alc', I really think- Where are you going? Alchemy?❞
She was already walking away, down the sidewalk to the direction they originally came from. The Doctor quickly pulled on his cloak, buttoning it up, and pursued after her, calling her name.
...
❝This is going to be our fate, Doctor! This is our call to destiny. Let's get it done!❞
