As Kyle and Hela walked towards the pack borders, they were completely silent. They used to be friends, but ever since the night of the Rogue attack, Hela had been distant. It was obvious why. Her brother was executed in part due to the pack that Kyle was a part of but it still made the Beta extremely sad and even a bit angry. Hela may have lost her brother, but Kyle also lost his fated mate that day.

Being fated to a vampire was hard, but Kyle always knew that he would stand by his partner no matter what. He was even willing to leave the pack for Garrick. When he was executed, Kyle felt like his insides were being torn out and he was physically sick for weeks afterwards. Even now, Kyle would sometimes fall into a deep depression. In fact, the only thing keeping him alive was Mandy and the kids.

Kyle sighed before saying, "it's been too long Hela. How have you been?"

The vampire just scoffed at the attempt at small talk and continued on silently.

"Please Hela, talk to me! We used to be friends, you know," Kyle pleaded.

She paused for a second, before turning around and glaring at the Beta.

"My brother loved you, you know. Vampires tend to be driven by anger and hunger, but he was different. He loved so hard that it came to his detriment. Helping Kai just because he was someone that needed help. Loving you even though you're a giant idiot. When he died, I didn't hear from you for months. Did you even love him?"

At first Kyle was shocked at the words that Hela had just said, but the more that they sank in, the angrier he got.

"Of course I loved Gerrick. Do you even know how hard it was for me Hela? My pack had just gotten destroyed and then literally the next day I lost my fated mate! FATED MATE Hela. I know you are not a werewolf, but you understand the concept. I was sick for weeks! I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't even get out of bed."

Hela looked at the ground, deep in thought before asking, "then how were you able to move on?"

Again, the Beta was shocked by the question. He sighed, rubbing his face with his large hands. He let out another deep sigh before continuing.

"To tell you the truth Hela, I haven't really moved on from him. The pack thinks I was mateless, so Mandy and I were set up to continue the Beta family line. She also lost her fated-mate in the war, so it was a good pairing. We love each other, but our marriage is mostly out of pack responsibility."

Hela laughed at that, "you stupid wolves and your 'pack responsibility'. I guess I shouldn't be too harsh though, vampires are even worse. Honestly, I think I am just jealous. You were able to continue living a normal life, while I am stuck and I don't have my brother to pull me out. I miss him Kyle."

"I know, I miss him too, but sometimes we have to get through the past and start living for the future."

At those words, the pair continue walking towards the pack border.

"So that Alpha is the one huh?"

"Yeah."

"Seems like an even bigger idiot than what Kai was saying."

"Yup."

"He loves Kai doesn't he?"

"He does, it's kind of sad actually. He turns into a giant puppy whenever Kai is around."

Hela laughed before continuing, "Does he know what is going to happen at the end of this whole thing?"

"Nope, he is absolutely clueless. In fact, I just found out as well. Is there any way around it?"

"Not that I am aware of Kyle. The Golden Arrows are strict with their rules. If Kai wants to leave, he is going to have to suffer the consequences of that. He should tell the Alpha though, so that he doesn't get his hopes up."

"I agree, but at the end of the day that is none of my business. Kai is finally able to make his own decisions, without any constraints from anyone else and I am not going to take that away from him. Especially in favor of Alex."

"Ah, so you're still mad at the Alpha for what he did to your cousin."

"Not mad, I just think he made his decision about Kai and he needs to live with it. Whatever happens is Kai's decision."

At that, the pair finally reached the edge of the pack, signaling that it was time for the vampire to depart.

"It was good talking to you Kyle. I hope that our path's cross again."

"Same to you Hela. Be careful out there."

The vampire just nodded before seemingly disappearing into thin air.

Kai woke up, enveloped in warmth and the smells around him made him want to sink further into the sleep state that he was just in. It was then that he felt the weight on his hips and the soft breathing on his neck and he realized that he wasn't alone in his bed. Not only wasn't he alone, but the man who was in his bed took it upon himself to get as close to the Omega as humanly possible.

Kai tried to get up, but the muscular arm that was draped around his waist drew him back in and the large man grunted in disapproval. Only when Kai relaxed his body did the Alpha's grip on him loosen again. Kai was not used to this level of intimacy and although his Omega instincts were kicking in making the experience feel extremely good, he also felt very uncomfortable.

"Alex! Can you please let me go?"

The Alpha just mumbled, not waking up. His arm still in place around the Omega. Kai was getting increasingly uncomfortable as he noticed that his pajama pants were a little tight as his private parts responded to the unfamiliarity of the situation. Now embarrassed, he elbowed the man hard in the ribs.

"OW, what the hell?" Alex asked before realizing the position that he was just in and releasing Kai immediately, "oh sorry, I didn't mean to."

Kai stood up, his cheeks red with embarrassment at his body's reaction to the Alpha. Walking quickly walked towards his bathroom but before he could get there, he heard Alex inhale deeply.

"Wait... Are you..."

"NOPE," the Omega screamed before slamming the bathroom door.
