After the awkward experience, Kai could not even look at Alex for extended portions of time. Everytime the Alpha tried talking to him, he would get flustered and try to end the conversation as quickly as he could.
The Omega didn't know why his body had reacted like that. It was like he was transported back in time to when he was a teenager. Sure, he had experiences prior and was far from being a virgin, but this was different. He reacted based solely on the feeling of intimacy, not of sexual desire, like he was used to.
He could blame the fated mate connection, but Kai knew deep down that his feelings for Alex were more than that. Even though the Alpha had done the worst thing possible to him and was a giant idiot, he still had some feelings for him. Whether those were lingering feelings from adolescence or new feelings was yet to be determined.
"You're burning the food Kai," Alex said, getting up from where he was sitting and running over to where the Omega was cooking.
"Dammit," Kai responded, removing the pan from the flame. The food was already black and smoke was filling the room. "Can you open a window?"
Alex walked over to the kitchen windows and opened them, he then walked over to the cabin's back door and opened it as well, fanning the smoke out.
"You know you could have just let me cook breakfast."
"Shut it. It's your fault anyways you overgrown mutt."
"How is it my fault?" Alex asked, before the realization hit him, "ah you mean..."
"Nope, your large body is just in my way and creating a distraction. Your stupid face is annoying and you smell..."
"Okay, okay, I get it," Alex laughed. The Alpha enjoyed this type of banter with Kai. Even though he was getting insulted every two seconds, it made him feel closer to the Omega that was supposed to be his fated mate. If Kai was honest with himself, he would realize that he also enjoyed it.
"I should get going anyways, the pack needs to be prepared. Kyle is out training the warriors, but I have to go talk to the Elders."
"Okay, I'll see you when I get back."
Kai walked over to the sink and ran the burnt pan under some hot water, his mind wandering once again before he felt someone embrace him from behind.
"Be careful Kai."
As sudden as the warm embrace began, it ended, as the Alpha released his grip and walked out of the cabin. The only sound that could be heard now was the running water and the slight breeze coming through the open windows and door. This is how Kai's life usually was, quiet.
"I will," the Omega whispered to no one.

A few hours later, Kai was standing at the pack border, waiting for Hela to arrive. As he was waiting, his eyes wandered around, looking at the large red trees that surrounded him. He really missed these woods. As kids, Kyle and him would play hide and seek in their wolf forms. He missed the feeling of the dirt between the paddings of his paws. He missed a lot about his childhood.
"Kai," a sudden voice said, bringing the Omega back from the daydream that he was in. Reality started to set back into his mind. He wasn't here to reminisce or fall in love. He was here to do a job.
"Hela, you scared the crap out of me."
"Sorry, but I have been standing here for a few minutes already. You were zoned out."
"Yeah, anyways. Any updates?" Kai asked as the pair started walking further into the woods, away from the back and towards the caves.
"No updates, but there is something that I need to tell you that I didn't really want to mention to the others," Hela said before pausing, deep in thought.
