Chapter Twenty: The Winter Soldier

Brooke then turned her attention back to Zeph. She began to make her way towards him slowly as he began to fight the Avengers.

They had finally arrived. The only ones that weren't there was Tony and Bruce. People were still running out of the buildings. Steve walked towards Brooke quickly as Thor and Loki fought Zeph.

Suddenly, Stark came and landed next to Brooke. Natasha, Clint, and Volstagg, and rocket came as well. Loki came running towards Brooke as Sif, Thor, and the other Guardian's fought Zeph.

Loki wrapped his arms around Brooke tightly. Brooke wrapped her arms around him gently. "Are you alright?" Loki asked worryingly as he pulled back.

Brooke smiled and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. Are you?" She asked. He smiled and nodded. "Good" She said.

"Alright guys, here's the plan. Romanoff and Barton, you two go inside the building and find anybody who's stuck in there. Volstagg, stay at the front of the door and make sure everyone comes out. Protect the people from that guy."

Steve pointed at Zeph.

"Rocket be on the lookout. If you see anybody else that looks like soldier's, tell me."

"What???" Rocket asked. "I don't wanna be on the lookout! I wanna kick this guys a-"

"Language."

Tony snorted in laughter. "Language???" He asked. "Stop it Stark" Natasha said before they could start fighting. "Stark, go fix the building before it collapses."

"And Loki, take your sister somewhere safe. Get her away from here." Brooke's eyes widened. "Wait, what???" She asked.

"You're not fighting. If he gets you he'll kill humanity, and I don't think we want that" Steve said. Brooke looked at him and shook her head.

"No Steve. If you fight, I fight besides you. We're a team. We fight together and we stick together" she said, raising her chin, and surprisingly Loki didn't stop her.

Steve sighed, looking down, and then looked up at Brooke again. "Alright fine, but don't get yourself killed" he finally said, giving in.

Brooke grinned and nodded. "Alright, Avengers assemble" he said, and everyone went to go do as they were told. "Brooke, I think it's time to ignite" Tony said.

Brooke looked at him and nodded. "Yeah, me too" she said. Tony flew off and headed towards the building as Brooke turned to look at her brother.

"Loki, I need you to do me a favor. Please, I'm begging you, go heal Fandral a little and Peter" She said. Loki looked at her and he scowled, but then rolled his eyes and headed towards Fandral, Peter, and Hogun.

Brooke grinned softly and then turned her attention back to Zeph. Steve fought Zeph first. Zeph was too quick for him, of course for some odd reason.

Then Drax went and he tried to throw a punch at Zeph but Zeph moved his head and he quickly pushed Drax towards Thor, who was about to attack him.

Both of the men fell back on the floor. Gamora ran towards him growling but Zeph kicked her on the stomach and knocked her down.

Sif ran towards Zeph but she ended up tripping on Gamora. Brooke growled lowly. Now it was her turn to show what she had. She used her magic to change into her suit and then she formed a green flame in her hand.

She shot it towards Zeph but Zeph moved. She shot an other, and again Zeph quickly dodged it. Brooke began to run towards him, and he dropped his gun.

He got ready to fight and got in position. Brooke swung a fist at him but he blocked it with his arm, and then he threw a punch back.

Brooke moved out of the way and she tried to get a hold of Zeph's arm the try and push him to the floor, but he was quick and he roughly pulled his arm which made Brooke roll on the floor.

Brooke growled and looked up at him. She then quickly scrambled up on her feet and she began to run towards Zeph. Zeph heard Thor groan and he turned his attention to him.

Brooke quickly took this opportunity to kick Zeph's butt. She made her fist gather fire all around it and when she got to Zeph who was distracted by Thor, she swung her arm.

She punched Zeph across the face. He nearly fell and he stumbled back because of the punch. He slowly turned to face her again and he had a burn across his face due to the flames.

He growled and narrowed his eyes as Brooke's eyes widened. He swung a punch and Brooke quickly crouched down to dodge it but Zeph kicked her across the face when she did.

Brooke yelped and fell back, putting her hand on her face but she quickly got up, holding back tears. She grew angry again.

She placed her hands together and suddenly big green flames sparked out on her hands. Zeph quickly rolled to his side towards Steve's shield and he hid behind it.

After about 5 seconds Brooke finally stopped, and Zeph came out from behind the shield. Brooke looked up at him, panting softly and scowling at him.

Zeph looked back at her with his emotionless expression. Brooke ran towards Zeph once again, and she quickly jumped on his shoulders and sat on them.

She pulled out her knife and got ready to slice his throat open, but he grabbed her by the arms and he pulled her off of him and slammed her against the floor.

She yelled and arched her back in pain as she gritted her teeth and gasped for air. Zeph ran towards her and he straddled her down before she could get up.

He pinned her against the floor by her neck gently, which seemed that he was making sure not to hurt her. Maybe the Firestone was really delicate?

Brooke turned and spotted her knife next to her and she quickly grabbed it and slashed it at Zeph, but Zeph let get of her and jumped back off of her before he could get cut.

The Avengers began to get up finally from the pain and they saw that Brooke and Zeph were battling. They quickly got up and they began to make their way towards both of them as Brooke stood up as well.

She got ready to fight again, but she suddenly felt something hit her neck. She winced in pain and she raised an eyebrow as she reached towards her neck.

She pulled off a dart and Zeph looked confused. She suddenly began to feel dizzy and she stumbled and then fell back, but Zeph quickly ran towards her and caught her before she fell.

He wrapped his arm around her and gently set her down as he got on his knees and held Brooke in his arm to support her head and keep it up.

He looked down at her with a confused expression as if he didn't know what to feel now. He didn't know weather to take her with him and run or to leave her now with what seemed to be her brother and friends.

Brooke was trying her best to keep her eyes open as her breath quickened and she looked up at Zeph. Both of their eyes met; her green ones and his hazel ones.

Brooke's eyes were filled with fear and they almost seemed to be begging Zeph not to take her. Zeph sighed and then looked up at the winter soldier that stood before him.

"The Winter Soldier" He said under his breath as the Avengers stopped from attacking Zeph and looked up at Bucky, confused.

Zeph carried Brooke up in both of his arms and then he looked at Thor. Thor looked back at him and Zeph handed Thor Brooke. "Keep her safe" he said simply.

Thor was a bit confused at why Zeph would just give Brooke to him just like that even though he wanted her more then anything to become fully alive.
