"......."

The summer was just creeping up, school was in session and everyone was busy watching the sandlot boys play baseball. The small breeze that would pass every few minutes would push Mariela Gomez's soft  light brown hair, causing her to become a bit irritated that it was tangling up her once brushed hair.

Watching the boys scream about a 'pickle' left her confused, she knew of the sandlot boys, just never spoke to any of them. Phillip, her boyfriend absolutely hated them, told her that they would cheat and would always start fights with him and his team, so in her books they weren't the kind of people she would wanna be friends with.

Hearing footsteps coming, she turned to smile at her boyfriend, who had a sour expression on his face. "What's wrong ?" She asked the blonde, he sat and slumped next to her barely even looking at his beaming girlfriend. "Did the sandlot boys bother you again? I swear I don't understand the rivalry between you guys." She began to pick at the grass, attempting to pick up a conversation.

"Hello?" She giggled at her boyfriend, who was busy playing with the zipper of his jacket. "I think we should break up." Silence broke between the two, the only noise were the screams of the sandlot boys on the winning game. "What?" The poor girl barely muttered out, she was very confused seeing as yesterday everything was fine, they were fine.

Her heart began to pound, she was scared that it would pop out of her chest. "Look, we had fun times but." He looked at her with sharp eyes, "we had fun, I just think we should, ya know....see other people." He shrugged his shoulders, turning back to his zipper. "But- but I don't want to see other people." She could feel her eyes begin to well up, she tried to keep those tears in.

"Look," he gets up and begins to pat away at the back of his pants, the pants she bought for him for Christmas that has just passed. "You'll thank me one day." He muttered, giving her a small smile and a small pat on her shoulder, he was about to say something but he muttered out a 'no' and walked off.

Once he had gone back into the school, Mariela finally let the tears she held on for quite a while, to fall. She began to overthink everything she had ever did with Phillips, all the dates, the gifts, the times when he would leave little notes to her in between classes, was everything just a lie? He was her first boyfriend and now he dumped her.

Worries began to fill up in her, her friends were best friends with him. They'd choose him over her any day, every time they got into a fight they'd always go to her and beg for her to apologize, even when she didn't do anything wrong. The bell had rang, getting up she cleaned herself off of grass, she wiped away the tears that fell and rushed to get inside, she wasn't keeping track of who was in her way until she had bumped into someone.

"Woah-" she looked up and she quickly realized who it was. Benny 'the jet' Rodriguez.

"I'm sorry." She excused herself and rushed into the school, leaving the group of boys gawking at the pretty girl.

Benny watched as Mariela rushed inside, "what's Philips girl's problem?" Yeah yeah asked to no one in particular, he wasn't really looking for an answer. "I think she was crying." Kenny said as he followed Benny into the school, the other boys scurrying to keep up. "Who cares, she's Phillips girl. Probably ina loooooove fight~" squints mocked, no one really laughed besides yeah yeah, who high fived him.

"Maybe they broke up." Smalls nonchalantly said, causing the boys to turn and look at him weird. "What?" He asked, looking at the boys confused, "I mean, it looked like they were having a serious talk, and then she began to cry." He added, once again the boys stayed silent, until Ham wrapped an arm around the short boy, "awwww, does little smalls, have a little crush on Phillips girl?" He joked causing the poor boys face turn bright red.

"Nuh uh, I just... was looking at the direction they were sitting in..." Benny laughed, causing the boy to shuffle awkwardly, "Well, break up or not, it doesn't matter. All I care about is Mrs. Markell's last math test of the year today." Benny watched as his friends happy smiles turn into frowns, as if they had seen a ghost. Benny shook his head with a smile and made his way too class, but something was bothering the poor boy, he didn't really know what.
