Chp. 5: Feather's Mission

Feathertail's POV

'Should I tell Firestar?' Feathertail broke in in a hurry. 

Barkface sighed, but nodded, 'Take Ashfur with you. He has experiences too.'

Crowfeather moved to go after her, but then pause, hesitating. His glance flickered to Leafpool. He decided to follow Feathertail, but Littlecloud stopped him. 

'Squirrelflight and Sandstorm would want to know,' he said, and Crowfeather nodded.

He disappeared into the direction.

Feathertail felt nervous without Crowfeather, but then, she had managed to come back to the clan alone. 

It was almost an hour and Feathertail had no sight of Ashfur. She caught sights of Sandstorm going to Leafpool, but it seemed like Squirrelflight was missing too.

Crowfeather caught up with her, brushing his tail with hers, 'I think they might be together.'

'Like you and Leafpool,' Feathertail murmured under her breathe, and Crowfeather nodded.

'If they do succeed through, it will become me and you,' he agreed, and that warmed Feathertail a lot. 

They walked to the shore, the rest of the way becoming silence. Sure enough, they were there with Brambleclaw. They were screaming.

'We don't want another war!' Feathertail froze.

Crowfeather nodded, 'Leafpool is awake!' 

'Leeeaaaaffpoooooollll!!!!!!' Squirrelflight howled her name and broke off in a sprint. Brambleclaw followed, and Crowfeather dipped his head and left. 

Feeling slightly hurt, Feathertail turned to a quiet Ashfur.

'You OK? We are going to confront Firestar now,' she said softly, and Ashfur brushed her a little with a shook of head.

'Let's go,' his voice had lost its spark, 'I just wish Brambleclaw isn't so fierce. I was just trying to sort it out with Squirrelflight.'

'I am sorry,' Feathertail nodded.

'Thanks god you come. Leafpool couldn't have woken up at a more convenient time, huh,' he replied. 

Secretly, Feathertail disagreed. If she wasn't here for longer, they would have kits already and she won the battle. Instead she just nodded. But there was no time for that ... What's happened, happened. 

Together, they marched to their leader's den.  

It took them a while, especially to get permission into Firestar's den, but they did managed at the end. 

'Firestar?' Ashfur began softly, dipping his head, 'Are you ok?'

'What are you doing here?' the flamed-colour tom questioned.

Ashfur stared softly at Feathertail, and briefly touched her. Feathertail hissed in reply, 'Leafpool. She is awake.'

Before Feathertail would add anymore through, Ashfur pulled her back. Firestar has leaped up. 'She ... She was alive?' he hissed in a twig of annoyance.

'What?' Ashfur and Feathertail gasped. 

Firestar calmed down a bit, 'Kittypet fierceness ... I thought I killed her!' 

'And no one told you?' Feathertail mumbled soft and calmingly. 

Firestar sighed, 'Cinderpelt was determined to get away from me as soon as possible. You know that.'

Feathertail nodded. Ashfur stood up and guide his shaken leader into the medicine den.

Leafpool's View

Leafpool hugged her sister, and glanced at Crowfeather in gratitude. The WindClan warrior dipped his head in return. 

Squirrelflight's tail flickered at Brambleclaw, 'Seriously calm down. Ashfur wasn't trying to take me. We were just talking.'

Brambleclaw hissed, 'No, he was confessing.'

Sighing, Squirrelflight nuzzled him, 'Oh stupid, he was. But do you think I will accept?'

'No,' Brambleclaw quiet down, 'I hope not.'

'And he knows it,' Squirrelflight turned away and glanced out to the entrance in the direction Ashfur and Crowfeather were heading to. 

'He did?' Brambleclaw's hostility was completely replaced by curiosity and surprise.

'He wants to understand. He ... he knew he tried too hard too. He actually wanted me to forgive him for forcing me. He wanted us to still stay friends,' Squirrelflight finished.

Half-smiling at the pair, Crowfeather nuzzled her. 'I ... I was so worry!!! You can't die, you can't! I ... you ... Oh Leafpool, I don't know my options. I love her, but I love you too!'

Leafpool gasped, her heart leaping in joy. It wasn't hopeless yet, 'Oh Crowfeather ... You know I would never give up on you.' 

'I know,' Crowfeather smiled in reply, 'But I know it is same with Feathertail.'

Feathertail's View

The sight of Crowfeather and Leafpool nuzzling and confessing softly were the most heart-breaking moment to Feathertail.

'I WAS RIGHT!' she screamed, 'LEAFPOOL, I SHOULD NEVER HAVE TRUST YOU!'

A shocked silence followed, but it was broken by the sight of Firestar. Sandstorm looked up and brushed her tail to his. Cinderpelt did not moved, merely sighed a little. 

Leafpool dipped her head, away from Cinderpelt, Squirrelflight, Feathertail and of course Firestar. Brambleclaw and Sandstorm watched her. Her attention was on Crowfeather, who hadn't left her side or flinched at Feathertail's comment. 

'I thought you know,'  the ginger-white tom mumbled, 'Surely you guessed?'

Feathertail shook her head and ran out in tears. Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw were watching Ashfur. Squirrelflight with sadness, Brambleclaw with half-faded hostility. 

Ashfur hesitates and steps back out of the door, 'They are better at listening without me.' 

Brambleclaw's glance flickered in surprise, all his anger faded at Ashfur's sadness. 

Feathertail sat by the shore. It so wasn't fair! 

Ashfur found her soon, 'Hey, I am so sorry. But it is not hopeless you know, you can convince him.' 

'No, this is will never be forgiven, that medicine cat,' Feathertail hissed, 'She tried helping but she stole him. I don't ...' 

Feathertail broke into angry tears, and Ashfur patted her.

'Don't get so close to me,' as Feathertail felt the warmth, she gasped, 'You are making me feel like the same ...' 

'I know,' Ashfur replied softly, 'So do I.'

Please correct me if I am wrong, but ...

In the series, Brambleclaw-Feathertail > Ashfur > Squirrelflight 

If Brambleclaw can go to the end of line with Squirrelflight, then Feathertail and go to the middle with Ashfur.

(Nope, I am not saying I ship it. I just want the rivalry to be logical, and actual.)

P.S: Sorry, this chapter is quite long. Next chapter focused on Firestar and Leafpool and will be shorter, through. (960 Words!)
