When they got to Greenville, they could already see the fair. They're expected the line to be long, but Luckily the line was short.
They stopped near the gates and Jenny and Jeremy jumped out excitedly and tear towards the line. Onceler and Norma watched them with a smile and followed behind them.It didn't take long for them to wait in the line, as they finally entered the fair. It was bustling, with happy children darting from one stand to the next, hands filled with treats and prizes, their parents rushing behind them to catch up. There were endless amounts of food and confection stands, games, and rides to go to. Jenny and Jeremy took it all in with wide, amazed eyes.
"Whoa!" They gasped.Pipsqueak, meanwhile, also peeked at the scene astounded, his wide brown eyes filled with bashful delight. Never had he seen a place so colorful (other than the truffula trees), and never so loud and crowded with people. He was a little shy in the presence of people, but still very excited. This sure was going to be a great day.
"Hey, Oncie! Can me and Jeremy head over to one of the games?"
Jenny turned to ask her brother.
"Sure, you guys go on, Crickett. Me and Norma will just be nearby.
"Alright," Jeremy said, snickering. Jenny glared at him and he shrugged with his sly grin.
Jenny took his arm and pulled her over to the knock down game.
Onceler and Norma laughed.
"Common, let's go get some chocolate-covered marshmallows on a stick. You know you love marshmallows."
"Ha, of course you'd know."
Onceler took Norma's hand (Norma was touched by this gesture) and they went over to the stand.Pipsqueak could see that Jenny and Jeremy were heading over to a stand with what appeared to have what looked like eight empty bottle stacked in a triangle. Two sets of three balls lay in front of him. Behind the stand was a lanky man with a courtly mustache and bulging eyes. Pipsqueak through he looked funny.
"Welcome to 'knock down maniac!'Children!"
He called out in a bellowing strong voice that doesn't seem to match with his body type. He wore a tag on his shirt that read the name,
"Carl.""You both get three chances to knock down all these bottles. If you succeed, you get to pick your choice of prize."Behind him were the all sorts of cool prizes, such as wooden swords, big stuffed animals, water guns, a sling shot, basketballs, and other kinds of prizes.
Jeremy spotted a wooden sword and cried,
"I got to get that sword! That way you and me can have a sword fight and I will win this time.
Jenny scoffed.
"Yeah! In your dreams! You know I almost always beat you.
"Yeah. Almost always. Watch me and bet that I will knock down all nine bottles in one shot."
"We'll see then," Jenny smirked.
"Just let me get my lucky throwing back out your bag. I'll have better luck using it instead of the other balls."
"Alright. Let me get it out."Pipsqueak's eyes got wide. Oh no, Jenny was going into her bag. That ain't good. If she reached in there and felt him, she would thing to see Pipsqueak in there, and the fun would be over and they would. Pipsqueak didn't want to leave. He had so much to see at the fair.
He tries moving the ball, but it was already too late. The bag opened and Jenny's hand reached inside to get the ball. Unfortunately, as Pipsqueak feared, her hand touched his head.
Jenny felt something furry and furrowed her eyebrows.
"Uh? What is that?..."Pipsqueak tried to burrow deeper into the bag, but it was no use. Jenny already spotted him. Pipsqueak looked up with "innocent" cuteness and smiled real wide.
"Jenny, what's taking you so long.."
Jeremy looked over and saw Pipsqueak peeking up from the messenger bag."
"Pipsqueak?!" He gasped with bewilderment.
"What are you doing in there!?"
"Shhh!", Jenny hissed.
"You kids already?", the man "Carl" asked behind the stand a little confused and suspicious(Thankfully, he didn't noticed the little barbaloot in Kimmer's bag).Jenny stuttered,
"No uh- uh- we're good. We're cool. Excuse us a moment."
Clutching the bag with Pipsqueak to her chest she yanked and dragged Jeremy by the arm away from the stand. Carl shook his head as he watched them.
Jenny rushes around frantically until she finally spotted Onceler and Norma coming from the bumper cars. They were laughing and having a good time.
Jenny pulled Jeremy and ran over to them.
"Oncie! Norma! I think will have an extra guess with us."
She grinned nervously and lifted her bag for Onceler and Norma to find Pupsqueak smiling back at them in the bag. He giggled.Onceler gasped and gave a stern look.
"Pipsqueak. What are you doing in there? You know you can't be here, people would see you. You know they'd wouldn't let a barbaloot in here."
Pipsqueak looked back with sad eyes. Onceler softened his look. He just couldn't stern at him for long.
"You just wanted to come with us, didn't you, buddy?",
Jenny asked sweetly.
Pipsqueak nodded.
"Well, if looks like your here with us, now,"
Norma said and chucked.
"You are much sneakier than I thought you were", Onceler said.Jenny nuzzled pipsqueak's belly and looked up with Oncie with bright eyes.
"Can Pipsqueak have a day at the fair with us, please? Since he's here with us?"
"Heck, of course he can. Beside, the little guy needs to have fun. Isn't that right, Pipsqueak?"
Smiling extra wide, Pipsqueak nodded his very head happily, his head bobbling with energy.
Onceler chucked.
"Well then. Let's have fun!"
And so the fun day has begun.
