Tianna groaned in satisfaction, enjoying the taste of her cocoa flavored Hershey bar melt against her tongue. The sweet, chocolatey bar of goodness was just what she needed after a long day of constant moving around and socializing with the few people she seen throughout her day-to-day schedule. A schedule which consisted of work, school, dance, and munching on a yummy bar of chocolate bought from her Motels beat down vending machine."Yo ma I know you see me. How you doing baby?"
The rough, age worn voice called out, successfully replacing Tianna's attention from her late-night snack onto them.
As a defensive response, her honey brown irises that were once composed were now inflamed like wildfire, ready to snap on what she assumed to be some pervy jerk preying on the women that roamed Miami's streets at night.
"Oh, it's just you," she sighed full of relief, relaxing once she saw the drunk resting in front of her cities local store used by surrounding neighborhoods. Tianna never would've guessed that there would be a day where she would be grateful to hear her streets homeless man cat call her for what she felt like was the one thousandth time so far.
The old man smacked his lips at her response, "Aye why you always gotta do a playa like that? You turning around all hostile as if you wanna beat me up or something. You never got a smile on ya face either, I only get to see it when you're eating on that lil chocolate bar you got there. Reminds me, since you like sweet things why youn like me? I'm sweeter than sugar baby."
The girl straight-faced him, unmoved by his sorry excuse of a pickup line. It seemed like each one he spat at her was very cringey and an ear sore to listen too. Yet, they still managed to make her giggle here and there and she didn't bother hiding her feelings either-laughing right in front of the poor man's face without a sense of shame
"I-I told you I have a b-boyfriend sir." Her words stumbled over one of another, unable to form a well enough sentence from the little laughs her lips released every now and then. Tianna was lying of course; this was just a little lie that she fed the drunk so that he would leave her alone. However, the old man was very stubborn and persistent as you can see. She was starting to feel like her lies have done nothing but make him more deluded as the day's passed by and sadly, his pickup lines seemed to become weaker with each encounter.
"Well, it doesn't look like he's taking good care of you then. Gotchu out here walking these streets by ya self this late at night. You know...? You too pretty to be roaming these areas alone when its creeps hiding about, waiting to pounce and do who knows what... But um, imma stop my rambling and let you continue ya walk." He gave her a small smile, bringing his hand up to massage the patches of hair running alongside his jawline.
Tianna just nodded her head, subconsciously fidgeting with the strings attached to the top of her small green hoodie. The drunk's sudden change in tone and all-around attitude had her shaken up a bit, going from playful to serious in a bat of an eye.
Now, all she wanted to do was get home, and quickly at that. Thankfully, her mind and body synchronized, naturally picking up the pace with each step towards her destination.
The black pupils in her eyes surrounded by honey gold were enlarged with agitation, darting anxiously at the passing cars and nearby citizens allowing her anxiety to swallow her whole. As much as she didn't want to admit it, the man's words did have an effect on her, seeing that a bunch of "what if's" were roaming about her frontal lobe. She felt as if she was becoming paranoid, now noticing things that she was not so sprung up on before. Like the way the 2017 Honda Accord a few lanes down from her has been taking the same turns she has, easing down the same streets her feet carried her on.
