"Do you know what it's like to like someone so much you can't stand it and know that they'll never feel the same way?" —To All the Boys I've Loved Before
Third Person View
As they walked back to Y/n's aunt's house, Mina couldn't shake the feeling that something had changed between her and Y/n. The way Y/n had held her hand at the waterfall and the stories she had shared had made Mina feel closer to Y/n than ever before. It was strange because she still hated Y/n, but at the same time, she couldn't deny the warmth she felt towards her.
Once they arrived at the house, Y/n and Gyuri went to the kitchen to prepare dinner with her Aunt and Uncle while Mina went to freshen up. As she stood in front of the mirror, she couldn't help but think about Y/n and the way she had held her hand earlier. She shook her head to clear her thoughts and went to join the others in the kitchen.
During dinner, the conversation flowed easily, and Mina found herself enjoying Y/n's company more than she had ever before. After dinner, they all settled in the living room to watch a movie.
As they watched the movie, Mina couldn't help but steal glances at Y/n. Something felt different between them, and Mina couldn't pinpoint what it was. She was confused by the feelings that were stirring inside of her, both familiar and foreign at the same time. She tried to push them aside, but they kept resurfacing.
As the movie came to an end, Gyuri excused herself to go to bed, leaving Mina and Y/n alone in the living room. Mina nervously fidgeted with her hands, unsure of what to say or do. Y/n turned to her with a smile and said,
"Thanks for coming with us today. It was nice spending time with you."
Mina felt her heart skip a beat at Y/n's words. She couldn't deny the warmth she felt towards Y/n, even though she still hated her. Mina took a deep breath and said,
"Thanks for letting me come. I had a good time too."
They both sat in silence for a moment, the tension between them palpable. Mina's mind raced, unsure of how to proceed. She watched as Y/n leaned forward, her eyes softening as she reached out to place her hand on Mina's. Mina's heart raced as she felt Y/n's touch, her skin tingling with anticipation.
"Can I ask you something?" Y/n said softly, her thumb rubbing circles on the back of Mina's hand.
Mina nodded, her throat tight with emotion.
"Why do you hate me so much?" Y/n asked, her gaze never leaving Mina's.
"I know we've had our differences, but I feel like there's more to it than that."
Mina took a deep breath, her eyes meeting Y/n's. She knew she couldn't hide from her feelings anymore.
"I don't hate you," Mina said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I just hate the fact that I need to marry you to save my parents company. I feel like I've been forced to do things I don't want. And I hate myself because I can't say no to my parents. I love Chaeyoung; she's my everything, and not telling her that I'm married to her best friend breaks my heart."
Y/n's eyes softened, understanding and empathy evident in her expression. She squeezed Mina's hand gently, offering comfort and support.
"I'm so sorry, Mina. I had no idea how hard this to you," Y/n said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I wish there was something I could do to help you."
Mina's heart swelled with gratitude and affection towards Y/n. She had never expected Y/n to be so kind and understanding towards her. It made her feel guilty for all the times she had been cold and distant towards Y/n.
"Thank you for understanding," Mina said softly, her eyes brimming with tears. "I just wish there was a way out of this mess."
Y/n leaned forward, her eyes locking with Mina's.
"What if I told you that I could help you?" Y/n whispered, her voice full of promise.
Mina's heart skipped a beat, unsure of what Y/n meant.
"What do you mean?" Mina asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Y/n smiled softly, her eyes full of compassion and understanding.
"I could stay married to you, but we could just be friends," Y/n explained.
"That way, your parents would still be happy that their company is safe and secure, and you wouldn't have to worry about telling Chaeyoung the truth. We'd still be legally married on paper, but in reality we'd just be friends."
Mina felt her heart swell with emotion at Y/n's words. It was as if all her worries had been lifted off her shoulders in one fell swoop. She had never expected Y/n to offer such a kind gesture, and it made Mina feel like she could finally breathe again.
She looked up at Y/n with a smile and said,
"Yes. That would work perfectly."
Y/n's smile widened, relief and happiness evident on her face. She leaned forward and hugged Mina tightly, her arms encircling her in a warm embrace. Mina closed her eyes, savoring the feeling of Y/n's embrace. It was strange how something so simple could make her feel so content and safe.
As they pulled away from each other, Mina looked up at Y/n, a newfound respect and admiration for her filling her heart. She couldn't deny the attraction she felt towards Y/n, but for now, she was content with the fact that they could just be friends.
"Thank you, Y/n," Mina said softly, her voice full of gratitude. "You have no idea how much this means to me."
Y/n smiled softly, her hand reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind Mina's ear.
"I just want to help you, Mina," Y/n said softly, her eyes never leaving Mina's.
Mina felt her heart race as Y/n's fingers grazed her cheek. She had never felt so connected to someone before, and the fact that it was Y/n who was making her heart skip a beat both frightened and excited her at the same time. She couldn't deny that Y/n was beautiful, and the closeness between them was starting to make her feel like she was losing her resolve.
She loved Chaeyoung, and even though Y/n can offered her an easy way out, she couldn't betray the woman she loved.
"I know," Mina said softly, her hand reaching up to cover Y/n's. "And I appreciate it more than words can express."
Y/n smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "Good," she said softly. "I don't want you to be unhappy, Mina."
Mina nodded, her heart full of gratitude and affection towards Y/n. "I won't, I promise" she said softly. "And thank you, again. You have no idea how much this means to me."
Y/n nodded, her smile still soft and understanding. "Anytime, Mina. I'm here for you."
The two women sat in silence for a moment, the air thick with unspoken emotions. The tension that had been present earlier had dissipated, replaced by a sense of calm. Mina felt a sense of peace settle over her, knowing that she had Y/n's support.
As Y/n got up to leave, Mina couldn't help but feel a sense of longing and sadness wash over her. She wanted to hold on to this moment forever, to stay in Y/n's presence for just a little while longer. She knew it was foolish, but she couldn't help how she felt.
"Goodnight, Mina," Y/n said softly, her hand lingering on Mina's shoulder for a moment longer than necessary. "Sleep well."
Mina nodded, unable to trust her voice. She watched as Y/n left the room, her heart heavy with unspoken words.
