"And we will end this meeting here" my adoptive father stacked all the papers together while declaring it. His yellow eyes roamed around the room watching everyone's slightest movement.
The room seemed a bit loud today since Father delivered the message of his retirement to us. Everyone was wondering who could be the next head of this whole criminal family.
I stood up to leave only to be stopped by my half-sister Veneca "I'm going to become better than you and be the next head of the Calnon family". She was the father's 5th wife's daughter. I do nothing but give her a mocking smirk, which is enough to trigger her anger.
"Don't laugh at me!" Seneca shouts to her lungs. The room suddenly turns its eyes on us.
"I'm going to be better than you surely. I'll show y-." Veneca had just finished saying that when our father interrupts her.
"Stop Veneca"
2 words for Veneca but not only Veneca but the whole room of 15 people went silent.
"Raina. Give me the pakacereport after dinner today."
"Yes Father," I say calmly and politely.
He pauses a moment before saying You can leave now. And Veneca... let's talk. Come with me "
Our family followed a system. A system of rankings. The one who was best in the majority was ranked at the top and had the most chances of becoming the heir, the next head. Others were given duties depending on their ranking.
The weak children weren't allowed to be in this family after the age of 11. They were taken somewhere where they all lived together to provide labor.
I am ranked second after my half-brother. I used to always try to be my best to give back to the family that adopted me when I lost everything. I didn't care that they would make me a criminal someday.
That was before... before I found out.
After some time
I found myself walking out of my carriage I had to meet Ms.Yuna.
"Lady Raina" She looks at me cheerfully. "I was waiting for your arrival-"
"Give me the information" I sit down on the sofa. I want to ask a lot of questions but I don't have much time. I have to join my father for dinner tonight. "So," I start "What have you found out?"
"Lady Raina... I have found out that the barrier of the forest can only be passed by the people of the Calnon bloodline. Someone else can enter it only while at least touching a family member of the Calnon Family.
