When Emma returned back to the apartment, she was tempted to open and read the letter that Caleb had handed her, but Mrs. Brooke was eager to know about her day around town.
"So Emma how'd you make out in town? Buy any nice things?" asked Mrs. Brooke, setting her book down on the coffee table next to her.
"Umm... it was pretty good. I bought a few things, but nothing special," said Emma, trying to hurry things along.
"Oh, well, at least you're spending your money wisely," smirked Mrs. Brooke, picking up her book and placing her reading glasses on her nose.
Emma ran into her bedroom as fast as she could. She couldn't wait any longer to read the letter that was given to her.
Emma got into her room and locked the door behind her, hoping nobody would bother her for the next few hours.
With a nice big, deep breath, Emma pulled out the neatly folded letter out from her back pant pocket.
She opened the letter and started to blush, in her mind she pictured the moment Caleb gave her the letter and started to play everything back and how they connected so fast.
The letter read, "It was so nice meeting you. Hopefully we'll see each other around town again". Emma fell back onto her bed, laughing. She was really eager to go back into town to find him. She obviously didn't because Mrs. Brooke would invite herself and it would be embarrassing.
A few moments later, Emma heard knocking on her door. She quickly grabbed the letter and placed it under her pillow. She acted like she was reading and quickly turned to page 50.
"Come in!" yelled Emma, sounding like she was busy.
"Hey, sorry to interrupt, but what do you want for dinner?" asked Mrs. Brooke, whispering.
"Umm... I'm not hungry right now. You don't have to get me anything," said Emma, placing her book on the bed, stretching.
"Oh okay. That's fine. Just make sure you eat something later and you don't over-read," winking Mrs. Brooke, closing her door behind her.
Emma let out a big sigh and picked up the letter from under her pillow. She read the letter one more time before she went to get ready for bed. Usually Emma eats before she goes to bed, but this time she wasn't hungry, it's like the letter made her lose her appetite.
Emma walked into the bathroom, threw on some pajamas, brushed her teeth and hair, and went straight to bed. It was a long day, but a good one. She couldn't wait to see what tomorrow holds.
