But what I didn't know was that as she turned her back on me while leaving my room that evening, after giving up on the idea of the party, she wasn't leaving with a defeated look but with a big sly smile that spread across her lips.***
After her departure, the weeks passed by quickly with not much essential to mention until Christmas week arrived.
At the beginning of this week, I was with my Ever class for the first lesson of the week. The students wouldn't stop talking; I suppose they were simply excited about the end of the week, for Christmas. Despite telling them to be quiet, they kept on talking, I gave up and let them go earlier than planned. When they all started to leave, a group of five students approached the desk where I was and waited for me to look at them.
One of them began to speak but was interrupted by the excitement of the others. They informed me about the Christmas party that was being organized this weekend, I expressed my confusion, thinking that Dovey had given up but according to them, she entrusted them with the organization under her supervision and command. The students then invited me to the party in the Great Hall, and I replied with a reassuring smile that I would consider it during the week.
Apart from this event that informed me about the party (which explained Clarissa's return to good spirits), nothing very interesting happened until Saturday, the day of the party. Of course, I had thought about it, and the answer was obviously 'no'; I wouldn't attend under any circumstances. So, after my Friday classes, during which discussing work was pointless as the students only had the word "party" in their mouths and minds, I returned to my room and stayed there on Saturday as well, except for lunch. The decoration and the buffet in the Great Hall were nearing completion, and everyone was busy (except for me). I had nothing to do so I spent the whole afternoon in the library, as I was tired of staying locked up in my room, finally reading some good books that had tempted me since my arrival.
Around 6:30 PM, I left the library where I now spent most of my time, and returned to my room. Fortunately, the library of the School for Evil wasn't too far from my quarters. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a slightly burnt piece of paper floating in the air. As I entered, it circled around me before settling into my hands, and I proceeded to read what was written on it "Something very serious happened with one of our students today. Please meet me in my office at 7 PM, it's urgent. Thank you, Dovey" It does seem odd that Dovey is in her office while the Christmas party has probably already begun. And she might be able to handle the situation with the student on her own, no? However, since this kind of event has never happened since I've been here, I wouldn't risk not going, besides, if Dovey said it's urgent it must be, even though she can sometimes exaggerate. It's better to be safe and attend the meeting.
So when the clock in my room chimed the time I was supposed to go, I left, closed the door, crossed the bridge, and arrived at the School for good, trying to find my way to her office. Once I got there, I knocked and waited, but there was no response, I wondered if Dovey might be sleeping. I knocked several times, but there was still no response, so I decided to enter and I found myself in an empty room maybe I was in the wrong place. However, I was sure it should be here, so I decided to wait for her to arrive. I sat on the sofa to the left of the room, making myself comfortable. The office was quite cozy, and I didn't feel uneasy being there, so waiting for a few minutes didn't bother me.
After ten minutes, I began to have serious doubts about the note, wondering if it was just a prank by a student to disturb me. But, when the door suddenly opened, my doubts were dispelled, or perhaps not... "You?!" I said shocked to see Lady Lesso enter "Who else?" She was also surprised to see me here as if she wasn't expecting me and it was mutual, I got an annoyed look from her "What are you doing here?" "Dovey needed me for something important that's all" I looked at her, confused, but she didn't say anything more. She closed the door and stood a few meters away from it. My thoughts were racing, trying to find the real reason why she was there. She must be lying, or maybe Dovey lied to me. It all seemed increasingly strange.
