The next day came, and Changbin was rallied with his squad at eight am sharp, ready to head for the mountain.
They were in the back of a larger flying car, operated by a professional flyer. Lights illuminated the space, all of them strapped into each side of the wall for safety with seatbelts. Their suits gave them built in insulation, preventing hypothermia and other natural ailments due to temperature. They were told that the Guardians assisting would be arriving later than them, and as they zoomed off and followed a highway to The Oyster, Changbin tried to collect his breathing as he thought of entering uncharted territory.
He had never been to The Oyster, so this was going to be quite interesting. They arrived within 45 minutes, and while they felt the atmosphere become colder, he felt relieved as his suit provided him with heat. "Everyone, prepare for dispatch." the male driver spoke. The back of the aircraft opened up as the engine came to a stop, the seatbelts automatically coming undone. They stood and walked outside in single file, following behind their captain as they put on their helmets, though their faces were visible under them. The snowfall was heavy, and many homes and villages were seen in the distance with paths aligning them, ash visible from the explosion's aftermath.
Beyond those homes, within the ridges of the tall and proud mountains, was a white and orange colored group of buildings with visible heaters placed around. There were also signs of explosion on the structures. Surrounding the snowy terrain was a see-through dome, although you could only tell it was a dome because the sun was shining, reflecting light. Thankfully, the dome wasn't damaged. There was a police line near the settlement, guarded by soldiers. "We're here, squad!" Miss Kim spoke over the heavy snowfall. "The craft will return in two hours, so please cover as much ground as you can, as our schedule is tight! Go go!"
They activated the mechanisms in their shoes, making them able to trudge in the snow as they changed forms into snow shoes. They walked a little further until they crossed the police line and ended up on the paths. "Changbin, you're with me! We'll investigate the main buildings!" Miss Kim ordered. "Yes Ma'am!" Changbin called, running up to her. They walked along a long path, approaching the large buildings. "I have authorization to get in from Miss Huh," Changbin took out Yunjin's card, and as they walked to the door with a silver gear, Changbin tapped the pad beside the door which was intact. The gear then lit up and began to move, the door opening inwards. They walked in as Changbin tucked the ID away, silently thanking Yunjin for the assistance.
They scoured the place, either using Yunjin's ID or breaking into rooms by force. They found themselves in another research room, furniture ruined, heaters broken, and robots laying on the floor, sparks flying out of machinery and ashes all around. There were no windows. "This place is a wreck." Changbin grimaced. "You could say that again." Miss Kim agreed. Suddenly, some of the robots began to move, alarming them both. "Surely they're friendly?" Changbin questioned. As the five robots got up and started to reboot, their bodies contorted into weird shapes. "Anomaly detected... scanning damage... error, error! Going into defensive mode."
They held up their guns as the robots came for them slowly. "Or not!" Miss Kim gritted her teeth under her mask. They fired blue shots against the robots, but it was futile, for they got back up from the damage. "They're made here specifically to do well against harm... that explosion must have been insane if they were out this long..." Miss Kim said. "Or perhaps they were intentionally kept asleep until we came." Changbin suggested. "Yunjin did tell you that it may have been deliberate." Miss Kim nodded. They continued to fire, but they were only slowed down, and their space to walk back was limited.
As things began to look grim and they were cornered, a quick gust of wind brushed past them, and lighting fast strikes were sent. The figure who came in was then visible at the end of the room, back turned, his silver blue hair wavy at the front, wearing a red jacket over a white button up and white pants. He was in tow with another man, who had black hair and a white shirt with silver chains around his neck, along with black ripped jeans. As the man with silver blue hair sheathed his silver katana into place, the robots fell onto their knees, cut into pieces. The man with black hair used the red gem on his wrist to keep them in place before they eventually shut down for good. The man with black hair then took the scattered pieces, sucking them into the red gem.
"See, I told you we made a good team hyung!" the man laughed. "We're here for a crime scene, not some bonding fanatics." the man with the katana scoffed. "Ugh, you're no fun. At least you're not Hyunjin, or I'd be super mad with you right now!" the other man smiled. He turned to Changbin and Miss Kim. "Sorry for the wait, STAY Department! We came in the nick of time, eh?"
"Yeah... thanks for the help." Changbin nodded. The man with the sword then turned around to face them, and as Changbin gazed upon his face, he felt a familiar sense of deja vu as they took off their masks. "You should be thankful, that would've been rough for you." It then hit him like a ton of bricks, and he just wanted the earth to swallow him up whole, something to tell him that he was dreaming. No, that's impossible. It can't be him, can it...? If it is him, he'd remember me. "Hey, what are you looking at? Have you seen a ghost or something?" the man asked, friction in his voice.
He doesn't remember me.
Changbin didn't realize he was staring. "Sorry. I'm still shocked, is all." he made up an excuse. "It's alright! I'm Han Jisung, number eight of the Guardian Clan." He was the one who assisted in the evacuations. "I'm Lee Know, number five." the man with the sword said. As he uttered his name, Changbin felt this heart drop.
It wasn't him- not in name or behaviour. But that face of his. It looked so much like him.
◆:*:◇:*:◆:*:◇:*:◆ A/N: Jisung and Lee Know have joined the team!! And Changbin's past slowly begins to creep up on him...
