Standing By

It was stupid of me not to wake Avi. I was nervous on how to break the news to him, and he looked so cute asleep, with his adorable little slight smile that he always has when he sleeps. Let me explain.

At my doctor's appointment, he told me I was pregnant. He said it was most likely going to be a miscarriage, but if it was born, it would die within three to twelve months of birth. I got home and expected him to be awake, but he was sleeping, and I saw books scattered all around him and he shivered so I just covered him with a blanket and ordered Chinese. The delivery guy was Jeremy, and he shot my leg. Tori managed to bandage it up really quick. Then everybody came out and was fighting, and before I knew it, I was being dragged out to some creepy rapist van. Now here I am, pregnant and injured, my best friend nearly unconscious next to me. The van slows down and pulls to the side of the road. Jeremy jumps out of the car, handgun shaking in his right hand.

"You shoot me, I shoot the curly haired one."

I hear a round of gunshots, and feel a sharp pain stab me in the gash in my left calf. I scream in pain and see Jeremy pulse sharply, before falling to the ground, blood oozing out of each gun wound. I cry in pain before an FBI agent lifts me into an ambulance. I feel myself drifting into an anesthetic-induced sleep.

"The baby wasn't harmed," a nurse tells Avi. Oh crap. His face contorts in confusion, and he rushes to my side, fuming.

"What does she mean my baby?" he huffs.

"I'm pregnant, but-"

"You didn't tell me?" he yells.

"You were asleep, and then I was kidnapped!"

He stays silent.

"The baby is going to die. Soon, or twelve months after birth. I was going to tell you-"

"Save it. I don't really care right now. You and our baby is safe."

He takes me into his arms, and I actually feel safe for now.
