A month passed ever since New Year came and things got worse out of the blue.
Kageyama's vomiting happened almost every 5 minutes and he became restless because of it, his eyes had a harsh tint of red that looked painful, his body could barely move a muscle without it hurting, his body was so skinny to the point where his bones were outlined on his skin, and he would feel short pangs of pain in his stomach from time to time.
He was getting weaker day by day and Hinata couldn't do anything but watch him suffering and try to assure him that it will all be okay soon.
Hinata knows he's wrong. He knew he was wrong the moment he overheard the doctor explaining to the Kageyama siblings that his disease became life-threatening now that the symptoms strongly affected his body. He knew he was wrong but still, he prays that Kageyama would be okay and he would be healthy again.
Hinata blows a shaky breath as he steps foot into the hospital. After finding out about Kageyama's condition, he feels anxious now every time he visits the hospital. It makes him want to throw up, the thought of Kageyama dying in this building makes him feel uncomfortable.
He gives the nurse at the counter a greeting as he walks past her, forcing a smile on his face before it drops, dread lingering in his body.
He stops in his tracks when he sees a certain dark-haired woman walk out of Kageyama's room with a grim look on her face, her hand clutched tightly on the strap of her shoulder bag.
"Miwa~san!" Hinata calls out and the woman turns her attention to the ginger head in front of her. "Oh, hey shorty," Miwa replies with a half-assessed smile. Hinata immediately notices the dark bags under her eyes as she stares at him with dull eyes.
Anxiety bubbles up inside him, not daring to know to answer but needing to. "Are you okay?"
Miwa lets out a shaky breath, her lips wobbling every so slightly. She purses her lips in a thin line, the grip on her strap tightening and it worries Hinata even more. She fakes a smile, refusing to look Hinata in the eyes.
"Kageyama's taking surgery tomorrow." Hinata felt like the world was crashing down before him when he heard those words. "We had a checkup this morning, it turns out his small intestine was damaged hence why he's been struggling to eat these past few days."
"It could worsen his sickness and lead to death so he has to take surgery urgently."
Hinata's body went rigid as he processed what Miwa told him. He feels a bile coming up his throat and he swallows, trying not to let it all out. It sickens him to imagine Kageyama going through surgery with a thin chance of surviving. It sickens him to imagine the way Miwa would cry if he hadn't survived.
A hand softly gets placed on Hinata's shoulder, nearly startling him as he looks at the woman in front of him. Miwa tries to give a smile, trying to be as reassuring as possible. "Tobio's a strong man, he can get through this."
There was obvious doubt in her words and Hinata heard it but he stays quiet as he too didn't believe her. But he tries to.
Hinata could only nod as Miwa gives him a tight-lipped smile, giving his shoulder a pat before she walks past him with no other words said. What's more to tell? The air was too tense to keep talking any longer.
He turns to the door that leads to Kageyama's room. Suddenly, he feels anxious, like he didn't want to go in anymore. It scares him to visit the hospital now. But somehow he can't find himself to leave, not when the person he cares about the most is there.
He gulps as his shaky hands grab the door handle, slowly opening the door as the cold air of the ac hits him like a wave. He stops once he sees the sleeping figure on the bed, at least he hopes he is sleeping.
