SWIFT IN 2024

Emily Marjorie Swift, born May 11th, 2000, is an American singer-songwriter and business woman. Her artistry, songwriting, and entrepreneurship have influenced the music industry and popular culture. A subject of widespread public interest, Swift is an advocate of artists' rights and has had a political impact. Swift began professional songwriting at age 12. Her older sister, Taylor, had the opportunity to become a singer, but passed on that chance and decided to co-write some of her sister's songs.

One of the world's best-selling musicians, Swift has sold over 600 million records as of 2024. She is the highest-grossing female touring act, the most-streamed woman on Spotify and Apple Music, and the first multi-billionaire with music as the main source of income. Six of her albums have opened with over one million sales in a week. The 2023 Time Person of the Year, Swift has appeared on lists such as Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time, Billboard's Greatest of All Time Artists, and Forbes' World's 100 Most Powerful Women. MUSIC RELEASE

Released in October 2014, Swift's first album 'emily' peaked at number one on the US , on which it spent 157 weeks, the longest stay on the chart by any release in the US in the 2000s decade. Swift became the first female artist under 18 to write or co-write every track on a US debut album. Swift won multiple accolades for 'emily'. She was one of the recipients of the Nashville Songwriters Association's Songwriter/Artist of the Year in 2015, becoming the youngest person given the title.

Swift's second studio album, 'fifteen', was released in November 2015. On the Billboard 200, 'fifteen' spent 197 weeks at number one. It was the best-selling album of 2015 in the world.

Swift's third studio album, 'moonlight', was released in February 2016. Written solely by Swift, the album debuted the Billboard 200 with over two million US copies sold first week and became the fastest-selling digital album by a female artist.

In April 2017, Kanye West released the single "Famous", in which he references Swift in the line, "I made that bitch famous, she was nothing more than a dumb blonde." Swift criticised West and said she never consented to the lyric, but West claimed that he had received her approval and his then-wife released video clips of Swift and West discussing the song amicably over the phone. The controversy made Swift a subject of an online "cancel" movement.

After a year of being out of public spotlight and not being seen since, Swift dropped her fourth studio album 'reputation' with no warning in Febraury 2018. 'reputation' was the world's best-selling album of 2018 and 2019, with 450 million copies sold.

Swift's fifth studio album 'between us' was released in November 13th, 2019. On the Billboard 200, 'between us' spent 139 weeks at number one. This was later confirmed to have some inspiration about McLaren Formula 1 driver, Lando Norris.

During the pandemic, Swift released two album in less than a year 'forever' and 'and always', and called them sister-albums. 'forever' and her second album 'and always' were the two best-selling album of 2020 in the US.

Swift took a year hiatus and released her eighth studio album, 'you're on your own kid'  in 2021. 'you're on your own kid' was 2021's best-selling album in the US and best-selling album by a solo artist worldwide. The album and its singles earned three wins at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in 2022. At the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, Swift won three awards including Video of the Year for "You Need to Calm Down", becoming the first female and second artist overall to win the category for a self-directed video.

Swift's ninth studio album, 'anti-hero', was released in October 2022. In the US, 'anti-hero' was her fifth album to open atop the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of over two million copies, and its tracks, led by the single "Anti-Hero", made Swift the first artist to monopolize the top 10 of the Hot 100. Globally, the album broke the record for the most single-day streams and most single-week streams on Spotify and peaked atop the charts of at least 14 countries. The album's two further singles, "Lavender Haze" and "Karma", both peaked at number one and on the Billboard Hot 100.

On April 11, 2024, Swift released the single "Espresso". The following day, she performed at the 23rd Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. "Espresso" topped the Billboard Global 200 and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Swift followed with a second single, "Please Please Please" on June 6, 2024, which became Swift's fifteenth global chart-topper. With these songs, she became the first female artist to hold the number one and two positions on the UK and US singles chart for three weeks in a row. Both singles preceded Swift's tenth studio album, 'Short n' Sweet', which was released on August 23, 2024.
