All my senses are currently not working. I stood there for a while and Sam just stared at me. I looked over and another cop was on the phone. I turned and saw dad staring at me too.

"Go." Sophie looked confused. I know she doesn't understand what happened which is good. I ran out as I heard and saw an ambulance leaving. Good thing we're so close to the market. I sped there as fast as I could, parking horribly and rushing inside the store as they moved Blaine to a gurney. My eyes were watering and I walked over, grabbing his hand.

"Blaine, I'm here. I'm here." He looked at me, breathing heavy. They started rolling him, looking at me confused. "I'm his boyfriend. I'm coming with you guys."

"Uh- okay." We all got into the ambulance and he started groaning as they moved. Tears escaped my eyes and I was covering my mouth. This wasn't happening. This couldn't be happening. They were trying to stop the bleeding but there was so much. I just held Blaine's hand the whole ride, crying.

"How- how are you here so fast?" He asked, forcing it out. It was obvious he was in real bad pain, struggling to talk.

"I was at the station. Heard the other cop on the walkie." Tears now started escaping his eyes.

"I love you." He said, gasping.

"I love you too!"

When we got to the hospital, we all rushed out. I tried to stay by his side but they wouldn't let me. They rushed out his information they needed but I didn't take any of it in because of the adrenaline and shock. Someone was holding my arm as they took him away.

"Sir, they need to work on him. You can't stay with him." I looked at her. "I know you're scared. Let me show you where to wait." She led me there since I couldn't move without the help. She sat me down and I looked at my clothes. When did all this blood get on me? "We'll let you know when we have updates. Try to relax as much as you can for now." I nodded. I could tell she felt bad leaving me but had to.

My phone rang after a little while of sitting there. I slowly pulled it out of my pocket and looked at the screen. It was dad. I was still shaking from earlier and didn't wanna answer if I was a mess. But I had to.

"Hello?"

"Hey bud. How are you?"

"Uh- fine?"

"Any news?"

"N- no. They haven't updated me since they made me sit in the waiting room. Alone."

"I called your babysitter. She's on her way here. I'm gonna join you."

"Do you need anything?" I looked at my clothes again.

"Clothes."

"Okay. I'll see you in a little."

"Mhm." I hung up and started crying again, covering my face with my hands.

Dad arrived just as a doctor directed us to a private room to update us in. Last time I was in one of these rooms, I was told 2 of the most important people in my life were dead. I can't be told this again. The love of my life can't be dead. Dad grabbed my hand as we sat down.

"The bullet punctured Blaines liver so we need to get him into surgery as soon as possible to get the bullet out and repair the damage. You're his emergency contact and he kept saying you should make all the decisions. Does he have any other family coming though?"

"I called his parents. They're on their way."

"Okay. They're prepping him for surgery. We will update you again afterwards." I nodded and the doctor showed us back to the waiting room. I got changed in the clothes he brought me before we just sat there in silence for a while.

"Dad?"

"Yeah?"

"He can't die." He looked at me. "This is my biggest fear. He's a police officer. He's at risk every day. It hasn't happened in the 5 years I've known him. Was it stupid to assume it wouldn't?"

"He's a police officer in such a small town in Lima, Ohio. I would never assume some idiot would shoot at a police officer here."

"I can't lose another person."

"I know." I sighed and he put a hand on my back. We continued to sit there in silence.
