As I walk through the metal detectors at my new school I quickly go and try to find the office. I'm roaming the halls as I overhear a couple of voices and I follow them and look from afar.
"Have a good first day, big brother!" A cute little girl goes and hugs a boys legs.
"Look, you don't have to hug me all the time." The boy says and the little girl slowly pulls away.
"We're not actually brother and sister, so..." The girls eyes turn glassy and the boys face softens.
"I'm sorry" She walks off and he tries to apologize but another boy with a crutch waves him off and walks with the little girl.
The boy makes eye contact with me and I quickly turn my head and start looking for the office again.
*Bell rings*
Shit, I still haven't found the office, how big is this goddamn school?! Oh... there it is. I open the door and walk in to find a lady sitting at the table. "What do you need?" She eyed me up and down. "U-uhm I'm new and I don't know any of my classes" I try to answer as sweetly as possible.
"You should've found it online." She continues to type away on her computer. "Well I don't have any electronics to find anything online so.."
She sighed and walked off somewhere but then came back. "What's your name?" "Y/n L/n"
She came back with a paper and a slip. "Your schedule, and your excuse for being late." I grabbed them and thanked her then walked to find my classes."
After a while I found my first class and opened the door. As soon as I stepped in I felt all the eyes on me... great. "You're late" I hear a teacher say and I glance over to the teacher slunked down in their chair and get up walking over to me. "Sorry, I didn't know where anything was, I have a note." I gave them the note and waited patiently.
"Okay class this is Y/n L/n treat her with kindness and respect I guess."
I found a empty seat next to the kid I saw earlier, the one with the crutch and sat down next to him. He turned towards me and started talking. "Flight or Invisibility?" He asks.
"Huh?" I didn't hear what he said since it came out so fast. "Flight or Invisibility?" He repeated. "Oh flight!" I enjoy reading comics and superhero stuff and from the sight of this boy, he does too. "Invisibility is a total villain power." We say at the same and smile
"I'm Freddy by the way." "Y/n" I respond while shaking his hand. "Hey do you have anyone to sit with at lunch, because if not you can sit with me." He smiles and I quickly think. "No I don't, so I'll take you up on that offer"
"Can I see your schedule?" I shrug and hand it to him as he looks over it. "We have all of morning classes together but zero afternoon classes. You share them with my new foster brother though! His name is Billy, I already know he's going to escape somehow but I think he's somewhat nice so far."
~Time Skip to Lunch~
I was in line next to Freddy as we were talking and then he lead me to his table where he saw Billy already sitting at. He asks him the same question he asked me in class. "Flight or Invisibility?" Billy just looks at him confused and then at me.
"If you could have one superpower, flight or invisibility, what would you pick?" Freddy continued. "I mean, everybody chooses flight, you know why?" Billy looked at me again before answering. "So they can fly away from this conversation?" I chuckled as Freddy glanced at me and Billy smiled to himself.
"No, no. Cause heroes' fly. And who doesn't want people to think they're a hero, right?" "But invisibility, no way, that's pervy" Freddy scoffs after answering and I was wondering how much this kid talks, but I find it fascinating, no one really listening but he has so much to say.
Billy abruptly stands up with his tray and Freddy grabs his own tray and crutch and follows Billy, which I do too because I don't want to be left alone. "Spying around on people who don't even know you're there. Sneaking around everywhere. It's a total villain power, right?" Freddy said the end a bit to loud and everyone stared at us.
Freddy shook it off and continued to follow Billy, as I tagged along like a lost little puppy. "Then they did this study, and this is a real thing. They asked people the same question. You know, what power do you want?" At this point we have followed Billy to the bathroom.
"But this time, they made it so the answers were anonymous." Billy stopped and so did Freddy, making me able to catch up with the two. "And most people, since they knew that it was secret, said invisibility. And I think that's 'cause most people don't feel like heroes on the inside, deep down."
Freddy sighed and glanced to the ground and continued. "You're gonna run away.I mean, you stole my Superman bullet." Billy shook his head and looked at the floor and then at me. Dude, I get it. I get it. You've been screwed over way too many times. You don't trust anyone. That's the thing about invisibility. You end up all by yourself."
Billy scoffs and looked Freddy in the eyes, "I didn't steal your dumb bullet." with that he went into the bathroom and shut the door. "How do you talk so much?" I question and Freddy laughs. "I don't know but that's what gets me in trouble with a lot of things"
~Time Skip to After School~
As I was leaving the building, I glance over to a big family and notice Freddy. I walk over to them and Freddy sees me and smiles. As they were talking I was standing next to Freddy and we started walking ahead of the group but were stopped as we got hit by a car.
"Holy fuck!" I yell as I stand back up quickly and a teen picks up Freddy. "No way that's gonna buff out" One of the boys groan. "You gonna pay for that Freeman?" The other one says. "The dent you made from almost hitting me? Yeah sure. uhmm... you guys take these?" Freddy looks at the ground as if he's looking for something but then flips them both off, causing me to laugh and one of the brothers glance at me.
"Oh yeah that's real funny" The one holding Freddy against the car then punches Freddy in the stomach and he falls to the ground groaning. "Freddy!" I gasped and tried to run over to him but I was stopped by one of the brothers.
Freddy was getting kicked everywhere and I couldn't handle to watch it. I ran up to the one who stopped me from getting to Freddy and punched him in the nose, he fell back groaning and holding his nose. "Holy shit" I mumble.
"Y/n! Watch out!" I hear Freddy right as I got punched by the other brother. I don't remember much but I do remember them making fun of the family and then Billy hit them with Freddy's crutch and then ran off with them chasing him.
I blacked out from blood loss I guess.... I don't know where though.
