Chapter 3: Living With Heroes?

It had now been several days since Teo ended up in the underground levels of Cadmus and the brunette still didn't know how she got there. "Hi Teo" said the voice belonging to Miss Martian making her turn around and smile a little bit. Having met the shape shifter not that long after the heroes Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash and Superboy introduced themselves to her. The brunette put the book that Robin had given her to use how she wanted away into her hoody. But she still carried around her teddy Snowy. "You know your welcome to stay at the cave and live with me and Superboy. And that we're happy your here?" Miss Martian said and Teo started to frown. Making her a little concerned. The brunette thinking in her mind that it wouldn't be long before Batman told her to get lost. Part of her feeling torn about what was currently happening was bad or was somehow a good thing in disguise. "It's okay Teo. I'll help you find a place you can feel wanted" Miss Martian said inside Teo's mind. "Wait. Did you just?...how did you do that?" the teen asked wondering how she got in her head. Part of her wondering if her mind was playing herself. "Oh. On Mars everyone communicates telepathically" Miss Martian replied in the brunette's head. Making the two start to talk to each other via their thoughts. "Hey babe. Did you miss me?" Kid Flash said using his superspeed to get to the two of them. "Oh. Hi Kid Flash" Teo said surprised to see him followed by Robin, Aqualad and Superboy. "Hello again Teo. It is nice to see you" Aqualad said. "We could ask Batman together if you can officially stay here Teo" Miss Martian said out loud with a smile. But her words made Teo fear of the worst case scenarios. "It's okay. I'll come with ya babe" Kid Flash said. Trying to reassure her. "We'll all go" Aqualad said and soon Teo went into Mount Justice. Clutching her teddy Snowy like her life depended on it as Robin and Kid Flash walked next to her.

"I guess you can call this a house tour" Kid Flash said trying to calm her fears. "The cave is the entire mountain. The Justice League had this as their original HQ" Miss Martian said. "So the Justice League decided to swap a secret cave for a tourist hotspot?...I don't see that as a good idea" Teo said. Remembering the boy wonder telling her about the hall of justice in Washington DC. "The league's location was compromised" Aqualad said. The team ending her a sort of history lesson about the cave. "Wait. So if the villains know where the cave lair thingy this place is...is. What's stopping them from attacking here and killing us all right now?" Teo said fearing some bad guy would come and destroy the place any second. With them inside the mountain. "It's okay Teo. The bad guys know we know they know about the place so they'd never think to look here" Robin said. "Which means we're hiding in plain sight?" Teo said looking completely confused. Her answer sounding more like a question. "You were able to understand me?" Robin asked looking a little surprised at her. Kid Flash looking impressed. "It was just a guess. I don't think my autism had any part in deciphering what you said" Teo said looking at Robin. Superboy looked like he was about to ask the brunette what autism was before he sniffed the air and said he smelt something burning. "My cookies" Miss Martian said  in shock before quickly flying to the kitchen. Teo and the others walked into the room as Miss Martian took out a tray of cookies that were badly burnt. "Sorry. I was trying one of those recipes from episode seventeen of...oh. never mind" Miss Martian said. A frown clear on her face. "At least one of us doesn't seem to mind" Teo said looking at Kid Flash eating one of the cookies. "I have a serious metabolism" Kid Flash replied. "Your lucky Kid Flash. I keep thinking I'll break a tooth or something eating one of these. Sorry Miss Martian. But who knows. Maybe next time you won't burn them" Teo said. Trying to encourage her. 

"It's alright Teo. We are off the clock" Aqualad said. Making the brunette surprised as the team were all still in their hero outfits. "I'm M, Gann. But my earth name is Megan. Since I live on earth now" Miss Martian said introducing herself. A kind and friendly smile now being on her face again. "Hey. Wait. You guys are seriously going to tell me your secret identities. Even after me mysteriously ending up inside Cadmus? For all any of you know. This will just make me an even bigger target for the villains. Especially once Batman throws me out with the garbage here" Teo ranted. Stopping the introductions in there tracks. "Don't think like that Teo. There's always hope" Miss Martian said. Trying to reassure her. The heroes then found Batman and asked him if the brown haired teen could officially stay and have her time with the team be less temporary. "Does she have any special abilities?" Batman asked. "I got told I didn't need to wear glasses anymore a few years ago...even though I still wear them with impunity" Teo said making Batman scowl at her. "No sir...as a kid I stunk at getting across the monkey bars at the playground. And at sports events like cross country I always came in dead last" the brown haired teen then said. The dark knight then asked her if she had any powers such as superhuman speed, shapeshifting, flight and even teleportation. All of which the brunette said no. "Then I'm afraid you'll soon have to find somewhere else to stay Teo" Batman said. Still looking as unhappy as usual. "I knew he'd tell me to get lost. If I had a suitcase I should probably start packing already" Teo said in her mind as she frowned again. "It's okay Teo" Miss Martian said inside Teo's mind. "Get out of my head. Please. Everything is not okay. So there's no point in saying it is. Since I'm not really wanted here. And you all probably see me as an extra hero chore to do. I'll just get out of all of your hair right now" Teo said as her voice started to break and she ran out of the room. "Teo wait" Miss Martian said. "Everyone just leave me alone" Teo said crying while running out of the cave. Until the others couldn't hear or see her anymore.

"It will be alright M, Gann. She will return in time" Aqualad said placing a hand on her shoulder. "Hey look" Superboy said. "She's been holding it ever since the night you found her" Batman said looking at that battered old teddy bear that was laying on the floor. Belonging to the brunette. "that's her teddy Snowy" Kid Flash said. "She must have dropped it as she was running away. We need to return it to her" Miss Martian then said. "Snowy is a he" Robin corrected before Superboy picking the teddy bear up. Miss Martian then thought for a moment before she said she knew a way on how to find Teo and took the other teens to her bioship. After a few minutes of trying to find the brunette the team got told there was an alert at the Happy Harbour powerplant by Red Tornado. Several minutes later. Teo was walking down the streets of the town trying her best not to cry again. Not wearing her glasses anymore and her eyes being red and puffy. Before suddenly hearing the sounds of people screaming as the wind started to pick up quickly. Teo screamed looking up in horror to see several tornadoes appear and start destroying the town. Panic quickly spread and she started to run away. But soon fell over and felt herself start to get trampled. Shielding herself the best she could. After people had stopped running over her. She uncovered her face to see a man in a red metallic like suit not too far away appearing to create more tornados. The teen saw one heading straight for her and she screamed again. Not seeing anything for her to hold onto other then the grass with her bare hands. Thinking the tornado was coming too quickly for her to run away from it. The team then arrived and Superboy tried to punch one of the tornadoes while Kid Flash used his superspeed to get her to safety. "Superboy?...Kid Flash?" Teo said. Surprised to see them again. "We got you babe" Kid Flash said before he used his super speed again to re enter the fight. After the battle was over Teo walked up to the heroes holding her arm. The brunette asked who the villain was and Aqualad replied that it was a robot who called himself Twister. Robin said that she was hurt again to which she told them she was nearly trampled earlier. Before telling them she thought she just had a lot of bad luck. "Then maybe here's some good luck" Kid Flash said as Superboy took out her teddy.

"Snowy" Teo said taking a hold of the bear and hugging it tightly. Now starting to cry tears of happiness. "You dropped him when you ran out of the cave" Robin said. Miss Martian then telling her that Superboy kept him safe for her. "You kept my teddy safe even during a battle against a villain...for me? Thank you. You guys are the best" Teo said hugging Superboy before giving all the others one as well. "Do you think you could go back to the cave with us?" Miss Martian asked. "But Batman said I can't stay because I don't have any powers or anything like that. I'll probably just be a burden to..." "Forget what Batman said" Teo said until Superboy interrupted. "I might have an idea" Kid Flash said and they all looked at him before going back to the bioship. The six of them then returned to the cave and Kid Flash argued that she could stay with one of the team and that they would protect her for as long as she was in harms way. The team then debated amongst themselves as to who on the team she should be staying with. Until they made their decision and Batman went to tell her the news. The dark knight and the brunette then went to the zeta tubes and Batman sent the both of them to Central City. Finally stopping at an ordinary looking family home. "This is Rudy and Mary West. You'll be staying here with them and their son Wally for the time being. Both The Flash and Kid Flash will help to keep you safe" Batman said before he soon left. Leaving her alone. After a while they decided to have a small cake to welcome her and make her feel more at home. Before the door opened and a boy with red hair, freckles and emerald eyes walked in saying hi to his parents. "Hi...I'm Teo" the brunette said. Smiling a little nervously at him. "Nice to meet ya Teo...I'm Wally" the boy replied. And soon she felt like she was somewhere she was wanted and could be safe in a world with heroes.
