Notes: This is still technically prompts from kinktober but since it's been a year and hence weird to keep calling it kinktober, I'm not calling it kinktober, and now you can have the added fun of trying to guess the prompts I used for each one. Which shouldn't be hard because they're all probably weirdly specific.

It was late at night. You rolled around on the bed, too big and empty for only one person. You looked out the window, watching the hustle and bustle of the city, glimmering lights and vibrant nightlife dull and fade as the night progresses.

You looked harder and harder, as if you believed if you continued staring you would somehow will yourself to look over the horizon and see what you were trying to find.

All was futile. You flopped onto the bed, hearing the crisp clicking sounds coming from the hands of the clock, reminding you of the seconds that become minutes, and the minutes that become hours passing by.

Artem was supposed to be back by now. The entire apartment felt incomplete without him. You sighed. Obviously something was wrong. Maybe a key witness suddenly gives a new testimony, or more evidence was suddenly provided by the defendant, or some issue in the opening and closing statement, there was too much that could go wrong.

The case originally could've been handled in Stellis too, and you could've joined in and helped, if it weren't for the defendant requesting for a change of venues. You sighed, looking towards the direction of your phone, which was resting on the bedside table.

You wanted to call him, just to make sure and ask what was going on. But you didn't want to bother him in case he was busy. You groaned, thrashing about in the bed, making a mess of the neatly laid out quilts and blankets you made before, when you thought Artem was coming home tonight.

And after a few more minutes of contemplatively staring at the ceiling, you decided to call him. Just to make sure everything is alright on his end, and so you could sleep easier at night.

You clicked on his contact and pressed call. Surprisingly, the call connects near instantly, so fast that you haven't even thought of what to say to Artem.

"...You're supposed to be sleeping," Artem answers, exhaustion and fatigue clear in his voice. "It's past midnight where you are."

"I know, but I couldn't sleep without you, especially since you were supposed to be back by now," You sighed. "I just needed to know if you were alright."

"I'm sorry, Rosa. I was going to call, but I didn't want to disturb you if you were resting," Artem says, and you hear a loud creak in the background, presumably Artem leaning back in his office chair. "But the case... I'm not clear on details yet, but apparently there's been some major upheaval on the defendant's side of things, and now the trial's been postponed to two days later."

Your heart sank hearing that Artem won't be back for another two days, but it is what it is. You couldn't even imagine Artem was feeling. You tried to conceal your disappointment, you didn't want Artem, as always to try to cheer you up despite being the one more heavily affected when it should be the other way around.

"It's alright. It's just two more days, it's not the end of the world. But if you need any help, I'm always here," You gave an affirming nod though Artem can't see it.

"Everything on my side of things is in order. I was just about to call it a night. If everything goes smoothly, I'll be back before you know it," Artem assures you. There's a brief pause of silence, like there were still words hanging in the air, left unsaid.

Just when you were about to speak up, Artem cuts in. "I miss you, Rosa. I wish I was here with you." His voice was soft, fond and full of adoration, and if words could come to life, his would smother you with so much warmth and love it would leave you breathless, maybe literally.
