On the way back to D.C., the team was able to help stop the bleeding. Once in the city, Y/N was able to see a doctor at S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters.
“She seems to have healed fairly quickly. If I didn’t know any better, I would say that she was wounded two days ago.” The doctor said.
“Rapid regeneration?” Steve questioned.
“It looks so. Were you ‘powered up’ when you got hurt?” She asked
“Uh, yeah.” Y/N answered slowly.
“That would explain it. It looks as if the survival mode that you go into when you ‘power up’ does everything to keep you alive. It’s the same for your father when The Hulk is released.”
“Looks like I’ve still got a lot to learn about this,” Y/N thought out loud.
“Will she be able to leave today?” Steve asked.
“As long as she comes back in for a check-up before her next mission and promises to take it easy until then, I don’t see why not.”
“You have my word.”
The doctor left the room and she could hear an audible sigh of relief come from Steve.
“Were you worried?” She asked him.
“No. I knew you’d be alright.” Steve said nonchalantly.
“I don’t know. You seemed to be pretty concerned on the ship. Got pretty mad at Nat about it too.” She teased.
“She got you hurt. She hurt you.” His anger with Natasha revealing itself.
“She had another mission.” Y/N tried to calm him.
“That she decided not to share. I don’t care, I would have worked it into the plan. What I do care about is that you got hurt and we could have failed to save the hostages.” Steve said with exasperation.
“Steve,” Y/N tried.
“I’m going to talk to Fury.”
I’m coming with you,” She slid off the examination table.
She winced in pain when her feet hit the floor. Steve attempted to place a hand on her back. She stood up right as quickly as she could, trying to keep him from worrying. She yelped out in pain as she doubled over.
“Y/N.” Steve held out his arm as he caught her.
“It’s fine,” She said through gritted teeth.
“It’s ok to take your time to heal.” He tried to reassure her.
“That’s not it. Just. . . I’m fine.”
“Y/N-”
“Can we go?” She cut him off.
The two of them took the elevator to Fury’s office. Getting to the door Steve barged in.
“You just can’t stop yourself from lying, can you?” He accused.
“I didn’t lie. Agent Romanoff had a different mission than yours.” Nick said.
“Which you didn’t feel obliged to share.” Steve made his way to his desk.
“I’m not obliged to do anything.” Nick stood from his chair.
“Those hostages could have died. Y/N got hurt because of it, Nick” Steve swung his arm, almost hitting her.
“I sent the greatest soldier in history to make sure that didn’’t happen. On top of that, Y/N’s a superhuman and a damn good agent. I’m sure she can handle getting a little wounded.” Nick pointed out.
