Imagine my great annoyance when she literally brought cookies to school the next day. Choco Heim, which was even more annoying because they did happen to be the kind I preferred. I refused to even look at them, let alone eat one. But she just shrugged with a grin on her face and ate a couple herself. Then she set the rest on my desk.
I hastily put them back on her desk, and thus began a kind of tug of war game of putting them on each other's desk. Unfortunately, they ended up on mine by the time class started, so I simply dropped the package onto the floor between us. Her smile faltered for the briefest of seconds, but then she simply rolled her eyes and grinned at me again. So I rolled my eyes with a scowl on my face.
Later in the day, Mirae left fourth period before me with her friend who had an obnoxious laugh that rivaled even hers. I saw her at her locker about five minutes later, however, as I was heading to music class after dropping by my own locker. And I noticed the same three guys I'd seen bothering her a few weeks before encircling her again in front of her open locker, trapping her. And again, for whatever reason, I immediately stopped to watch them. This time, I could hear what they were saying.
"What's up with you and the new kid?" the same one in the center asked.
Despite her body tensing slightly, Mirae turned around to face him and retorted, "What's it to you?"
"Just keeping tabs on the school slut," he sneered. "Seeing how high your body count can get before I decide I don't want a piece."
My heart jumped. 'What the hell?'
Mirae was resolute, however, and appeared to keep her calm. "Yeah, like I'd ever give you the time of day, Haneul."
He leaned in and whispered something to her that I couldn't hear, but her face drained of color and she began to look around nervously.
"G-get out of my way," she said, stuttering as she pushed on his chest.
He laughed as she was unsuccessful in getting him to move. "So, is new kid ever going to join your little harem or are you just going to keep him as a side piece?"
