The transfer from Y/N's old volleyball club in England The Bristol Volleyball Club and her new club in Spain Club Voleibol Barcelona happened in a short period of three months. Which led to having to face a lot of difficulties for the 17-year-old.Moving out of her parent's house and living alone for the first time in a different country was hard. On top of that, living in a country where you don't speak the national language makes living there nearly impossible.
Learning Spanish is something Y/N struggles with she can't communicate with many of her teammates and often gets mocked for her lacking of Spanish. Every interview she does has to be translated for her, and fans often don't like that. She gets a lot of hate from the fans saying she shouldn't be so disrespectful and start to learn Spanish.
Many don't know that she is trying to learn Spanish, but the language is so different from her English language. So understanding and speaking is very difficult for her, but the public doesn't want to understand that.
The first few months in Spain were hell for her. She felt alone and couldn't speak with anyone. She even considered moving back home and leaving Barcelona.
Until one Friday evening, after training, where she met Pablo Gavi. He was sitting on a wall in the parking space waiting to be picked up by his best friend Pedro who didn't have training that day.
"Lo siento, que hora es?" asked Pablo Y/N, she looked at him with a slightly panicked face, "N-no ha-hablo español".
"But you live and work in Spain " adds Pablo in slightly broken English with a frown on his face. Y/N started to blush in embarrassment, "It's ... hard for me to understand Spanish" looking down to her feet in shame.
Pablo eyes soften, he didn't want her to feel bad about it, he just wanted to rile her up a bit. "Yeah ... Spanish can be hard, even I don't understand it sometimes. And I was born here." She shyly smiles at his attempt to comfort her and tries to keep the conversation with the midfielder going.
" So, why are you waiting here all alone?", "I'm waiting for mi amigo to drive me home but he just texted that his novia came over, and he probably wants some alone time with her. When you know what I mean" Pablo smirks at her.
"So ... nobody can drive you home?" Pablo looks at her with a frown on his face, "Nope " he sighs. Y/N looks at the cute boy in front of her and can't believe she is about to say that.
"M-my car is parked d-down there, I-I could take you h-home if you want. I mean if you don't want to that's completely ok, we just met and I could be a-anybody, you don't even know my name so..." she starts to ramble but Pablo stops her. Extending his hand towards her, " Pablo Gavi, midfielder at FC Barcelona". She hesitantly shakes his hand " Y/N Y/L/N, middle blocker at Club Voleibol Barcelona"
The two stood there smiling at each other until Gavi broke the silence " Now that we know each other, does the offer with the driving home still stand?" Y/N gets shaken out of her trance, "Y-yes o-of course, this way come on"
Pablo follows Y/N to her car which is a white Cupra Formentor. " Nice car, I want the same one when I get my driver's license. "
Y/N looks at him surprised " You don't have your driver's license?". Pablo smirks at her "No ... it's hard for me to understand how to drive". She laughs " Touché".
The drive to Pablo's house was filled with stories about their lives and Y/N explaining why she ended up in Barcelona. " So.. they didn't give you any time to learn Spanish?" Pablo asks with a frown decorating his face. "Nope, they flew me out here and let me do this on my own" exclaims Y/N with a sigh. "Assholes," Pablo says out of nowhere which has Y/N laughing.
Turning into Pablo's driveway and coming to a halt, Pablo complements Y/N for being a way better chauffeur than his best friend Pedri. "I'll make you a deal, if you could drive me home on Mondays and Fridays, because Pedri doesn't have training on this days, I'm going to teach you some Spanish"
Looking at him with a smile " You ... would do that for me" "Yeah you seem like a very nice person and you can drive so why not?" Pablo smiles back at her.
"That would mean so much to me, ... gracias", "Hey we are not starting from zero, you are going to be fluent in Spanish in no time, trust me" Gavi smirks at her.
Pablo bids her goodbye after exchanging numbers and climbs out of her car. As Y/N drives home she can't help but start to feel not as alone anymore in this big country.
