Tay was at ash grove park with Kyle, Katie, Ty, and Maddie.
"It doesn't bounce." Katie scoffed as she moved the sea saw.
"Everything here is broken." Kyle said
"Well, at least these still work." Ty said walking over to the swing set and stepped through a giant puddle of mud with his white shoes making everyone gasp.
"Not the end of the world. Throw those sneakers in the washing machine when you get home. They'll be fine." Maddie told Ty as he made a face.
"Katie, I texted Melanie's mom to make sure we we're at the right playground. Maybe I should suggest we meet at Wharton's?" Maddie told as she held out her phone.
"She hates pizza. You guys can go. I'll wait here by myself." Katie told them and Maddie made a face.
"No, ma'am you will not." Maddie told her as they all chuckled.
"How do kids play here?" Tay asked
"I don't think they do." Ty told her.
"Mom, have you talked to Mayor Hall about this place?" Kyle asked as ran over to a piece of equipment.
"I will when I meet with him at the end of the month."
"Why wait? Why don't we fix it?"
"Who's we?"
"You, me, our friends, whoever."
"I'll help!" Katie spoke up.
"Yeah, a bunch of us could get together and finish in a day or two. Some paint, lumber, hard work."
"Honey, it's might be a little more involved than that. You might want to consider if you have room for what you're putting on your plate." Maddie told him as he started taking pictures.
"So you're graduating is from clean plate club to balanced plate club." Ty asked
"I'm sharing what I'm learning. Feel free to do the same." Maddie told him.
"You told me I had time to explore."
"Just checking in. You know, balancing between hovering and ignoring."
"And I'm balancing between what I thought I knew and what I never even thought of."
"Well, that, sweetheart, is what life is about. And all the spaces in between. Maybe a little time on the swings will help." Maddie said
"Ah."
"But, you know, you may not be able to swing as high as I can." Maddie told him.
"Is that a dare?"
"Is is now. You take the muddy side because those shoes are a mess!" Maddie said as she started swinging.
"Wait, you got a head start!" Ty said and Maddie laughed.
