Rubab's POV:

"I think you should put the pillows on the ends of the bed." Fahad piped in and I gave him the side eye. I knew he was going to say something stupid.

"What am I? 4? Do you think I will fall off the bed or something?" I grabbed the pillow he was about to throw off the bed.

"4? Oh no, begum. But I know you are going to try to wiggle away from me during the night so I don't want you to fall off." Fahad grinned as he successfully grabbed the first pillow from my grip and placed it behind me.

"Really? How considerate. Maybe if we maintain the barrier, I won't have to wiggle off." I countered but Fahad's twinkling eyes just made me question my statement. Did I just validate his words as well?

"Or maybe I can call room service again to incinerate these pillows once and for all." Fahad offered and I sighed loudly as I gave up on the pillow protest. He grinned as he grabbed all of them. Knowing his absurd logic, he can definitely do all of this. "Nothing and I mean nothing is going to stand in the way of us sleeping together on the same bed today."

"Okay fine. Suit yourself. Stay on your side of the bed. I am going to sleep." I grabbed the bed spread and covered my head with it. I heard his husky laugh before I heard rustling and shuffling on the bed until I felt something on my waist. Fahad wrapped his arm around my abdomen and gently dragged me towards him until my back was touching his chest. He was wearing a vest but this felt so intense. I could feel every inch of his body rub against mine and it was driving me crazy. He nuzzled his head near my neck and muttered something incoherent. I felt my heart skip a beat.

"Don't complain begum and go to bed. I have a long day tomorrow." He whispered as he relaxed his body while I laid there, stiff as a chalk board. How does he expect me to sleep in this position? Even as a kid, I always slept in my own personal space. His body heat was burning my back. Is he a heater or what? Why is it so hot here? Where is the A.C remote? I need to decrease the temperature and turn the turbo mode on. "Stop moving so much unless you want me to do something about it."

With that, I was still again. I can't sleep like this. This is absurd. Impossible. Stupid.

Three hours later

I can't believe I was actually able to fall asleep. Fahad was sleeping beside me peacefully. He had shifted positions a little so he wasn't gripping me so tightly now. His hand was under my neck for some reason now. I didn't even notice when we changed positions. That came out wrong. Never mind. My throat was parched. I wonder if the fridge had water in it. I slowly got up from the bed making sure he didn't get up. I looked behind me to make sure. He was still sleeping like the dead.

Good.

The bedspread wasn't covering him properly so I tucked him in comfortably before grabbing my indoor slippers. I looked at the clock. 3:47 a.m. We will have to do some grocery shopping in the morning. The bedroom was disconnected from the rest of the penthouse by a wall and a door, it was like a mini house of sorts. The lounge and the kitchen were mostly an open concept though. The kitchen could overlook the lounge in a cool way. I was about to twist the doorknob of the bedroom when I felt two hands trap me between the door and his body.

"Kidher ja rahi ho? (Where do you think you are going?)" Fahad asked in a monotonous tone that was devoid of any emotions. When did he wake up? Or more like, how was he able to creep up behind me so stealthily? It nearly gave me a heart attack.

"You scared me. When did you wake up?" I don't know why I was whispering.

"The moment I didn't feel your body warmth. I will ask again. Where are you going?" For some reason, this didn't feel like the normal playful Fahad right now. The room was dimly lit and his presence behind me plus his accusatory tone was worrying me just a little.

"To the kitchen to get water because I am thirsty genius. Where else would I go at 4 in the morning?" I turned around to look at him. He gave me a silent stare for a few seconds before he released me from his hand cage or whatever that was.

"Bed men wapis jao. Men le kar ata hun. (Go to bed. I will bring it for you.)" He moved aside while continuing to give me a weird stare that was beyond me.

"What? Why?" My eyebrows knit in confusion but I decided to agree anyway because arguing with him was as pointless as it could get.

"Because I want you to warm it up for us and I miss you in it." It hasn't even been five minutes since I left the bed though? What even was this man's deal? But alright. I am not about to debate with him on this so late at night. Once I complied, there was the smallest hint of a smile on his face. "Do you want it chilled or room temperature?"

"Room temperature. Also, Fahad we have to go grocery shopping today."

"And we will, begum. Back to bed now." He ushered me to bed while he left to get water. This man was weird. And beyond me. "Also, let's go to the northern areas the day after tomorrow. I know you have a few days off from university."

Fahad's POV:

When I hadn't seen Rubab in bed beside me, the worst kind of thoughts erupted in my head. Maybe I wasn't used to sleeping beside someone but the idea that my wife wasn't beside me at 4 am brought all kinds of negative emotions inside me. Is she regretting it? Is she trying to make a run for it? I kept my eyes closed as I considered all the possibilities.

That was until I felt her tucking me into the bed. That is not the behaviour of someone who is about to run for it. She didn't turn towards the bathroom but towards the lounge. Was she really leaving? What did she want? Was she having second thoughts about us? Is this because of those stupid pillows?

I got up slowly and walked towards her. She was about to sleep. I pressed my body against hers while using my arms to cage her. She isn't going anywhere.

"Where do you think you are going?" My tone sounded more accusing that it should have.

It turns out she just wanted water. From now on, I will keep a bottle of room temperature water on her bed side table so she doesn't have to go so far for it. I need to make a note of it. She was giving me a weird look as if I had gone crazy or something and maybe I had. Who even drinks water at 4 am? Couldn't she wait till morning? All was forgotten when she called me in her semi-sleepy voice and told me we had to go grocery shopping because the fridge was apparently not loaded.

Maybe all that contractor stuff was getting to my head and making me irritated for no reason. I will sort that mess out tomorrow and then book a trip for the two of us to go to the north. I had stalked her Instagram stories and there was a specific place she had been wanting to go to. I had a plan. I knew it would be perfect.

Just the thought of her wanting to leave me had my head in a weird frenzy. I handed her the water bottle and rounded the bed to go to the other side. I waited for her to finish. Once she was lying down again, I wrapped my arm around her and hugged her from the back. Her scent relaxed me but I didn't fall asleep until I was sure she was asleep as well.

As I saw her sleeping self, I realized something. I might have found a new addiction. Her sleeping beside me without a worry in the world. I will always protect you, Rubab, from every worry or pain in the world. From anyone who might try to hurt you. This is my promise to you.
