"Oh, uh, no, not yet" Grandma says
"Well you now, the duaghters of the duaghter of the americal revolution debutante ball is next week" The lady says, sipping her tea
"It is, i hadnt realized"
"why dont you present Lory there" she says, smiling up at me. "Oh, uh, well, i dont know, isnt it a little late?" Grandma stutters, wiping her mouth with her napkin. "Oh please, for Emily Gilmore, im sure they'll bend the rules"
"Oh you have too, with a girl like that emily, you'll be the hit of the ball"
''She'd definetley be the prettiest one there" The ginger one says. "Except for Katie Healthington" one syas "no, didnt you hear? katie fell off her horse, has a scab on her face"
"Oh well then, if katie has a scab on her face, rory will definitley be the prettiest one there"
"it'll be your crowning moment" one says, and grandma's face lights up and she looks at me.
"what do you think Lory?"

"Im coming out" I say as i walk into the kitchen to see my mom sitting at the kitchen table. "out of what?" She asks. "Out into society"
"what are you talking about?"
I open the fridge and grab a pitcher of lemonade and grab two glasses "I went to grandma's house before training.''
"okay, right awya bad." She says as i pour her a glass and hand it to her. "and her DAR friends are all theyre and talking about this deb ball"
"oh no"
"and they started talking about, grandma was telling me how important it is for a person to be properly presented to society" I repeat her words, pouring my own glass and putting the pitcher in the fridge then sitting down beside her, taking off my vest and gun and putting them on the table
"ugh"
"and how every young girl dreams of this day"
"agh" mom makes a weird noise
"and how there are flowers"
"oh lord"
"and music"
"please"
"and cake"
Mom clsoes her book "oh yeah, the cakes actually good"
"and before i knew it, grandma was bringing out your old dress and i was trying it on and-" Mom gets up and picks up the phone "what are you doing?"
"im getting you out of this"
"mom wait" i say "i want too"
"I swear, there is nothing in the world my mother is better at than getting someone to agree to something that in any other universe, they would never ever consider." She rants
"Mom"
"i am still convinced she had something to do with Lily Tomlin doing that movie with john travolta"
"Im doing this" I tell her, with a long sip of my lemonade. "Why?"
"Because you should've seen the look on Grandma's face when she asked me. It's just really really important to her"
"But. . .''
"Now if it's that important to her, and it's not that important to me, then why shouldn't I do it?"
"Lory, do you now what a coming out party says?"
"that im a woman now?" I guess, she shakes her head and sits down.
