"That's not my daughter! It's a monster!"

Kirie blankly walked down the streets of Nagano, to her school Kamomedai. She wasn't a transfer student, it was already her second year in that school. Yes, she is a 2nd year but it's not really noticeable with her height. She was 5 foot 3. She blended well in the crowd with her gloomy aura. She doesn't really stand out nor does she plans to. She just doesn't care.

She isn't the aloof type or the cold type. She's just emotionless and unfamiliar with any kind of feelings. That's why she just fades in the background along with the other side characters. She doesn't have any circle of friends, her only friend is back at Miyagi and they keep each other in touch every now and then. Her classmates don't even know her or maybe a few knew her name. But there was one who acknowledges her presence in the class, Hakuba Gao.

For some reason, the tall student seemed comfortable talking with her. Their relationship was already in the friendship stage, as what Kirie measured. But being with a tall and popular student, caused her to fade even more. Even though she didn't care, Hakuba was bothered.

The first time they talked to each other was when they were just first years, on the 2nd day of school. Hakuba was the target of some criticism for being too tall for a first-year. He didn't have that many friends as well. So he didn't know whom to tell his insecurities until one lonely lunch at the back of the school. He met a silent little girl, eating alone under a tree. He felt awkward and maybe also disappointed that someone got there before him. So he decided to find another spot until Kirie called him in a hushed and emotionless voice. " Do you want to....sit here?"

At first, he was unsure but it didn't take long for the silent atmosphere to calm him down. He looked at Kirie who was eating silently, not minding his presence. With that, all of his hesitations faded and he started eating with a smile on his face.

It became their spot, a place to eat together alone without any interruption or judgmental eyes bothering them. It was a whole week and Hakuba felt really dependent on the calming air around Kirie, as if all of his stress will fade as long as he is close to her. And so he spoke about his problems for the past few weeks and Kirie listened even if she doesn't look like it.

Once he finished, he was shocked when Kirie stood on the bench and patted his head. " You don't have to listen to them Hakuba-kun. They just want to pull you down so they can make themselves feel better. I think you're talented so you don't have to be bothered by what other people say. "

Kirie had always supported him at the back, not being noticed by other people. She doesn't show her support in the grandest of ways or even anything flashy that can catch anyone's attention. She was down to earth and shows her support through simple words. 'believe in yourself ' just know that you can do this' ' It's not the end, you can still do more'

Though she never wishes him luck, when he asked her once why, her answer was simple. " Because you don't need luck to win a game"

But regrettably, since they became 2nd years, he had no time to spend with her since he is always busy at practice. And surprisingly, Kirie was appointed as the student Council President by the faculty. After all, Kirie is the top student in school but it's still a mystery why the teachers decided to choose her as president instead of having the students vote for it.

Though they text each other, they were short and simple yet also meaningful. Hakuba really treasure his friendship with Kirie but the girl was still too unfamiliar with emotions and interpersonal relationships. He wanted to help her. Maybe even just stimulate a single spark of adrenaline in her. So he decided to invite her to watch their practice match against a nearby school. He specifically begged her on their call that afternoon. Kirie wasn't really that busy so she had no reason to refuse or feel lazy. She even felt that his begging was unnecessary which caused him to nervously laugh.

Quite a few people were spectating their practice match which was held in their school. Kirie wasn't able to watch the 1st set because there was an emergency at the music club that she needed to resolve. Hakuba knew because Kirie didn't forget to message him despite her busy time.

It was in the middle of the 2nd set that she came and the first thing she saw was a white-haired boy spiking a ball down the opponent's net. Cheers were heard, directed towards the albino-haired boy who has a victorious smile on his face.
