Background: Ballister and Ambrosius are two superheroes who end up caring a bit too much for their 'nemesis' the villain/ vigilante Nimona

For the Realm, it was considered a normal night. The moon was out and the stars were shining. Flying cars speed between the skyscrapers, most headed home from a long day's work. However, for two people, their work had just begun.

"Hey, honey?" called out Ambrosius as he clamped on the last pieces of his white and gold armor.

"What love?" Ballister called back from the kitchen, the clanking of his boots echoing through the heroes' apartment.

"Did you grab dinner?"

After a second Ballister responded, "Yeah. Do you want me to put it into your little backpack?"

"Uh, sure." Responded Ambrosius as he tightened his belt and sheathed his golden sword. "Did you pack napkins?"

"Not yet, no."

Ambrosius stepped out of their bedroom and down the hall to the dimly lit kitchen. As always, Ballister stood there in his gleaming gray armor. "You look... Nice."

"Did you see I styled my hair today?" asked Ballister with a smile.

Ambrosius laughed, "I can tell." and leaned in for a peck.

Ballister returned the kiss but shoved his partner off before he could get too sidetracked. "Come on, she's probably already there waiting."

"You mean your demon," grumbled Ambrosius as he slung his backpack over his shoulders.

Ballister winced, "She's not a demon."

"All children are demons."

Ballister cracked a small smile and together the knights threw off their helms and started the evening patrol.

It was only about ten o'clock, they had to be in the park by ten thirty but their pair often left earlier in case there was a robber on their way to dinner. Thankfully, that night was calm and quiet and the lovers walked together hand in hand.

As they approached the park it was clear that their nemesis was lying in wait.

The pair stroded inside, admiring the way the moon shone through the leaves of the trees. It was calming, walking between yellowed lights together. But something was missing, or more like someone.

"Nimona!" Ambrosius called out. "It's dinner time!"

"DINNER!"

Ballister and Ambrosius sat down at their usual bench and Ambrosius took off his backpack. From the depths of the park came a pink wolf.

"Boss! Nemesis! You're here!" The wolf changed forms, shifting into a pink-haired teenage girl.

"Hey, kid!" Ballister greeted the girl. "Ambrosius made dinner tonight."

"Are we sure it isn't poisoned?"

"Ha ha, very funny." Amrbosius sighed. He took off his helmet and tossed it aside into the grass followed by Ballister doing the same.

"How was your day Nimona?" asked Ballister as he passed out their meals.

The girl shrugged, "Nothing much. Terrorized Todd today, that was fun."

"What did you do?"

"Turned into a spider and crawled on his face."

"Did he freak out?"

"Bal!" gasped Ambrosius, "He's your co-worker!"

Ballister shrugged, "He's got a very punch-able face and an awful personality."

The group settled down into their normal affairs, telling stories between bits of dinner with the occasional appearance of a shark.

As they finished their meals a fourth person wandered into the park. Normally this would turn into a game for Nimona on how quickly she could scare the pedestrian away, only this person wasn't a pedestrian.

It was The Captain aka Todd.

The hero strewed into the park, making a B-line to where the family was eating dinner. His obnoxious cape trailed behind him and his over-inflated ego took up the entire city.

Todd was by far the most hated hero by other heroes. Anyone who met him instantly agreed that he had a punch-able face (Which lead to heroes filming and making compilations of Todd getting beat up by villains and vigilantes). Sadly for the heroes, Todd supported a large fraction of the hero's program so they couldn't fire him.

"Todd." Hissed Ballister, standing up. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh ya know, coming to destroy the villain who attacked me." Todd shrugged, "Nothing major. So if I were you I would step away from that monster so I could destroy it."

Nimona sprouted wings from her back and hissed, Ambrosius unsheathed his sword and Ballister spread his arms wide as to protect Nimona.

"She's not a monster. She's Nimona."

Todd rolled his eyes at Ballister's words, "Blah blah blah! She's still a villain and villains have to be destroyed."

"Todd," warned Ambrosius, "I can't let you do that."

"Why not?"

Ballister and Ambrosius shared a look that meant a thousand words.

"Because she's our daughter," announced Ballister.

The park fell silent as Todd glanced at them in confusion.

"That wasn't what I was expecting." Informed Nimona.

Todd scoffed, "How can she be your daughter? You two are guys. And she's not even human."

Ballister had a breaking point few ever got to. Most of the time it was in a Target shopping line when homophobic old grandmas would yell at him for kissing guys. Or another time when the restaurant put olives on Ambrosius's nachos. Ambrosius always told him that he can't just keep punching everything that offends him, but Ballister found that dumb as he's never punched anyone (The one time he tried to punch a villain he fell down and it was a huge scandal). So it was considered a big honor when Todd's face met his iron-clad fist.

The other hero stumbled back, surprised by Ballister's sudden attack. "Bro! That hurts man!"

"Good."

"Bal!" Huffed Ambrosius.

"What? He insulted Nimona." Ballister rolled his eyes, "He deserves it."

Ambrosius sighed, "I can't argue with you there."

"Nice hit Boss!" Completed Nimona as she turned into a shark. "Can I bite him now?"

"NO." Responded Ballister and Ambrosius in unison.

"Aww come on. Just one?"

"Nimona," Ballister warned.

The shark transformed into a small child which snuck under Ambroius's legs. "I'm coming for you!" ground the demonic baby, making Todd yelp and scammer backward.

"DEMON BABY!"

Nimona cackled and closed in on Todd when-

"Gotcha." Said a triumphant Ballister as he scooped the demonic baby up.

"Hey!" Fussed Nimona in her baby voice as she kicked her small legs. "Let go of me!" She wormed around in Ballister's arms, trying to break free but the hero's arms (Both his real arm and his mechanical arm) were too strong.

Todd turned on his heels and ran away screaming down the park.

"Five bucks he gets a noise complaint," announced Ballister.

Ambrosius sighed, "We all know it's going to happen. Finally. But we should get started on patrol."

Ballister set Nimona down again and she returned to her teenager form. "You can come with us if you want Nimona."

"Alright, but only cause you asked Boss."
