The wind was circling through the school as it did every afternoon, moving the trees from one side to the other. The cloudy and cold environment made many students choose to stay inside the academy, without having any incentive to go out and leaving the exterior of the place almost empty.
Twilight was one of the very few people outside. The breeze blew across his face with moderate force, it was a breeze that could cause him to catch a cold if he wasn't careful, but the stamina he had on many spy missions made the weather not a problem. His desire to accomplish his goal was far greater than just a freezing, health endangering day.
At that moment, that pair of blue eyes were focused on a girl. An 8th year Eden student, pink-haired and carrying a backpack with a Bondman design on it. Anya Forger. Loid had been lucky that he had an agent to fill in for him on a side mission, and with that aside, he could focus on a mission that could determine whether Anya stayed or not at Eden. Her final exams.
This time, his mission was somewhat peculiar. It wasn't a recon mission or a fight to retrieve some gadget from Ostania. He was using his stealth to follow his daughter and see if she was studying.
Even though it had been eight years, Loid was still very afraid for Anya's grades. Operation Strix had gone through a good progress, and he knew it had all been because Anya put her best effort into her studies. WISE and Loid moved closer to the Desmonds and gained more information to ease the tension of the cold war. However, that didn't mean Anya was a student prodigy. She was someone unexpected. Sometimes she could have a streak of regular grades, or the worst grades anyone could have. There was even a time where she had a minus two grade.
And the final exams each year determinate if she was going to earn a tonitrus or not. She almost always studied at home, but this time Anya told Loid that she wanted to study in the library after school. It took a lot of tears and hugs, until finally the man approved Anya's request. They both made a promise; she had to bring in passing grades above 75 that week with the studying she was going to have at school, and if she passed, he was going to give her a giant peanut ice cream. If not, she would have no chance to watch Bondman for two months.
However, even though he was her father, he didn't trust Anya's word very much. He knew she got easily distracted, so he was going to see if she kept her promise during that week. So now he was as her guardian without her noticing. Just for that week.
But actually, there was another reason. He wanted Anya to have a good upbringing and not become a liar like him. Not to inherit her father's bad traits; plus, he didn't want her to have an uncertain future after the mission. Although he was hesitating about whether he wanted to dissolve the Forger family because of the affection he had with Yor and Anya in those years. But he knew that was a topic for another time.
The first day he was stationed in one of the academy towers, peering through his binoculars at his daughter. Anya had left her classroom and was making her way to the building where the school library was located. She was walking alone, taking slow steps and being careful not to fall. Loid kept moving from up there to follow her from a safe distance, and making sure if she was going to keep her promise.
Once he saw her enter the building, he followed her thanks to the windows that were clear to the human eye. It took a while, but a few minutes later, he saw his daughter enter the library. After she asked for the necessary permission for a study table, he watched as she sat down on one of the chairs and opened her notebooks to study. Loid stood there watching her for quite a while, watching as she struggled to try to learn the basics of her subjects, as well as watching as she sometimes grabbed her hair to remember some facts from her notes.
"Well, at least she's in the library. That's good." Loid felt reassured to see her sitting there, even though he could tell she was suffering in understanding some subjects.
