You looked around your last class of the day as you tapped your foot impatiently. Your fingers twitched eagerly, as your mind had been swarmed with thoughts of what you could do after class was over.
You glanced across the room, trying not to make your stare last too long, yet you didn't want it to be too quick, either. You wanted to observe the room, see every person and every desk and every poster and every tile on the floor and every brick on the walls and every panel of ceiling and-
Stop.
You forced your tense body to relax. You had to calm down.
Just calm down.
Just stop.
But you couldn't! Everything reminded you of something. Everything was something to think about!
You sighed and rested your head on your hand, which was propped on the desk by your elbow. You felt like a time bomb, ready to explode at any given moment.
But you had to be good. You had to sit and listen and comprehend, and a whole bunch of other shit you just couldn't cram into your mind. It was already full! It was to the brim with ideas and thoughts and questions and plans.
You sighed again, trying to keep your composure. God, how exhausting it was to have ADHD.
Abbey watched you from across the room with a smile. She had been an acquaintance of yours for quite some time, and despite her many efforts to be closer to you, she never could grab your attention.
But why? Why couldn't she catch your eye? What else were you focused on? Abbey had tried too many times, and she was beginning to think things would have to be taken into her own hands rather than happen naturally.
The bell rang shortly after your third and final sigh. She watched as you sprung to your feet and dashed from the room with your opened bookbag over your shoulder.
Your books and pens were still sprawled out chaotically on your desk. Abbey sighed. You were always so forgetful, too.
She gathered your things and rushed after you. She had to catch you before you left school for the day!
Abbey dashed down the halls, her hair flowing behind her like a cape as if she were your hero.
Maybe you'd think she was!
Your car came into her view, and she continued her run.
Her feet stopped suddenly. What were you doing?
She squinted and stepped a bit closer. You dug into a pill bottle to fish out two identical pills. Then, you popped them into your mouth and swallowed them down with a bottle of water that Abbey figured had been from the day before, as you hadn't brought anything to drink into class.
Pills? What for?
Was that why you were so energetic? Were you doing drugs?
She approached your car and knocked on your driver's window. You jumped in surprise and rolled down your window.
"Hey Abbey!" You smiled, trying to hold in your deep breaths. You had to run, to fight, to scream, to break something. You had to do something to release the pressure you felt building inside. You silently prayed that your prescription would help this time, as it hadn't helped your last episode.
She held out a study book, two notebooks, and a pen and pencil.
You smiled widely. You had forgotten all about putting away your things!
"Thank you so much!" You squealed, and you tossed your medicine bottle to the passenger seat before opening your door to grab your supplies.
Abbey handed them off to you and squinted her eyes at the bottle.
