Meera's POV :
I glanced at my wristwatch. 7:15 a.m.!! At this speed, I am going to miss my flight. I hastily put on my sneakers and looked at myself in the mirror one last time. Looking all set, I picked up my suitcase from the wardrobe which I packed last night and ran straight out of the hostel gates.
I found my cab driver waiting for me at the campus gates. As soon as he saw me rushing towards him, he got out of the car and opened the trunk to load my suitcase. I smiled while wishing him a good morning and sat inside.
"Mam, may I ask where you are flying to?" he asked innocently while driving.
"I am going back to my home in Jodhpur."
Home... the word itself brought a smile to my face. It's been six months since I saw my family. Finally, I am going to meet them today! I will give them a huge surprise.
I was doing a Bachelor's in Management Science from the Jaipur University. My last semester just completed a few days back. My schedule became so hectic during the last months of my degree that I didn't get a chance to visit home. That's why I planned to surprise my family by visiting them earlier than expected. They are expecting me next month since I told them that I have an internship to do. A white lie to see those pure surprised looks on their faces won't hurt right?
My phone pinged, and I looked at the text from Jay. "Have you left for the airport? Send me your location." I promptly shared my live location with him on WhatsApp.
Only Jay knew about my plan since I needed someone to ensure that everyone was present when I entered the house. Convincing Jay to help me was easy; I promised to bring him his favorite Mawa Kachori and Ghewar, and just like that, he agreed in seconds.
We reached the airport just in time. I hurried straight towards the check-in window. "Are you traveling alone, ma'am?" the woman behind the counter asked me.
"Yes, I am."
"Due to overbooking in Economy class, we are upgrading passengers to Business Class. Since you are a loyal customer of our airlines, we would like to give you the opportunity first."
"Really! That's very kind of you. Thank you!"
This day couldn't have started any better. I had never travelled in Business Class before. I boarded the plane and reached my seat. The seats truly looked comfortable.
The seats:
I had the aisle seat, but I glanced at the empty window seat beside mine and decided to sit there. I would politely ask the person to switch seats with me when they arrive. Whenever I fly to Jodhpur, I always prefer a window seat. I love looking at my city from above. I opened my novel and lost myself in it.
It had been over 5 minutes since the plane's departure time when I heard an announcement from the flight attendant.
"The flight is waiting for the boarding of a few passengers. It will be departing soon. Sorry for the inconvenience." I looked around, and everyone except my fellow passenger was already on board.
