1. A call from my tita Jennie

ANNALYNNE'S POINT OF VIEW:

I just graduated high school 3 weeks ago. Now, I'm having a hard thinking where I should enter college and I need to think fast. I haven't think of any university. But well I'm deciding to enter the nearest university here and it's good, affordable cause there's no tuition since I don't wanna spend alot of money and it's almost near to our house but my parents told me that they disagree and want me to go to a better university for me to be more comfortable. Naintindihan ko naman si na mama pati nakita ko na rin ang university dito. Medyo madugyot at maliit yung university. No offense. Ehh ang alam ko lang na maayos at maganda na university ay nasa Maynila.

Actually I am the middle child in my siblings. Kuya Alan, me and Alexandra. I have older brother and a younger sister. My brother graduated college and now has a job at abroad at Japan. And my younger sister is still in high school, 9th grade. So me and my younger sister is left in Mindoro. By the way, sa Mindoro kami nakatira.

Nasa salas kami ni na mama. Si mama nanonood ng isang series ni Coco Martin at nakasawa tas ako ay nakacellphone. Habang kachat ko pa ang mga bestfriends, bigla ako nakaramdam ng gutom. Baka dahil kanina ka-unti lang ang kinain ko ng tanghalian.

I went to the kitchen to see if there something in pantry to satisfy my hunger. May nakita akong ramen na tanda ko pinadala ni kuya galing Japan. Nagluto na ako ng ramen ng nakita ko. After maluto ang ramen, kinain ko na na to agad dahil nga gutom na gutom na ako.

Tapos pumunta ako sa salas kung nanonood ng tahimik si mama. Si papa naman pala nasa taas. "Aileen!! May sasabihin ako sayo" sigaw ni papa. Pumunta si mama kung saan kwarto nilang dalawa. Rinig kong isinarado ang pinto ng malakas. Tumaas ako para Marini ko ang usapan nila. Alam ko isa akong marites.

I leaned to the door and tried to eavesdrops. I heard them talking to the phone to my tita which her name is Jennie. She is my rich tita. When ever she come home here in the province, she always give us anything we want. Like she is so rich that she could buy a big mansion. They put tita is on louder speaker so both of them can understand her that's why I can hear them.

As I eavesdropping, my widen from what I heard in their conversation. I think I heard clearly that they are planning that my tita will sponsor me to the university of De La Salle in Manilla. I gasped when I heard it. I know that De La Salle university is one of the expensive universities in the Philippines. I am still in shock standing there like a log. I leaned again to hear their conversation.

Habang nakikinig ako sa usapan nila, biglang nagbukas ang pinto at muntik na akong mahulog sa harap nila nasalo ako ni papa. "Annalynne?" Gulat na sabi ni papa. "Pa, ipapa-enroll ako ni tita sa De La Salle university?" Tanong ko kay papa. Tumingin si papa Kay mama tas sabay tingin sa'kin. Napabugtong hininga si mama at sabi "Oo siya mismo mag-eenroll sayo". "But why po?" Patanong na sagot ko kay mama. "Kaya ka ipapa- ng tita mo kasi tanda mo noong kina-usap mo siya at binangit mo din na hindi ka pa nakapag-isip kung asan mo gustong mag college diba?"

"And it's a good opportunity for you since De La Salle university is your dream college right?" Mama added making me hesitate. I am still half heart for De La Salle and I don't know why tita Jennie will enroll me. "Ma, pwede ko ba kausapin si tita Jennie?" Mama gave me the phone. Itinapat ko ang cellphone sa tenga ko at kinausap ko si tita.

"Tita, bakit nyo po ako ipapasponsor sa De La salle? Totoo ba po yun?" Tanong ko sa kanya. "Oo Annalynne. Alam ko naman dream college mo din yun at suggestiondin yun ni Sunoo na isponsor ka." Ang sagot ni tita sa akin. Si Sunoo naman ay pinsan ko. Kim Sunoo. Anak ni tita Jennie. One year ahead siya sa akin so second year na siya sa college. At half-Korean siya kaya name nya Kim Sunoo pero tawag ko sa kanya William o Will kasi mas preferred pa daw nya yun.

"Huh? Si Will po?" Tanong ko. Kaya pala, si Sunoo pala ang dahilan kung bakit ako isposponsor ni tita Jennie. "Yes so, ano na? Gusto mo ba yung opportunity na to" sabi ni tita Jennie. Tumingin ako kila mama at papa at ngumiti sila sa akin. "Ok po tita. Enroll nyo po ako sa De La Salle University." Sagot ko sa tita ko.

A few hours later:

Now we are in our dinning table, eating our last meal of the day. I saw my sister by my side, glancing at me sadly while chewing her food. She looks down and continues to take a bite of her food again. She already knows I'm going to Manila to study college there "Alexa, okay lang yan. Mag-aaral lang ako doon ehh" I told to her as my hand rubbing her back. Alexa turn her head to me and sighed heavily. "Ate Anna, ma-mimiss kita kasi. Ako nalang mag-isa dito. Wala ikaw, wala si kuya. Ako lang naandito" she replied.

"Ehh di ba kasama mo sila mama at-" biglang naputol ang sinasabi ko. "Ate, kahit kasama si mama at papa. Mag-isa parin ako" lumingon siya sa pagkain nya pagkatapos niya sabihin yun. Tumingin ako kay mama at papa na parang nalulungkot din kahit masaya ang pakiramdam. "Ma, Pa, Alexa. Wag' na kayo malungkot. Mag-aaral lang ako doon sa Maynila. Promise papadala ako ng pasulubong lagi para sa inyo." Sabi ko para mapasaya sila. "Wag' na kayo dramatic please?" Ngumiti ako sa kanila.

"Alexa wag' ka na malungkot. Promise dadalhan kita ng kahit anong gusto mo" tumingin ako kqy Alexa at ngumiti na siya pagkatapos ko sabihin. "Hmm, sige Ate. Basta babalik ka rin dito agad after mo mag-graduate ha? Okay?" Hiling niya sa'kin. "Sige promise" sabi ko sabay ngiti niya.
