After this long day, we all settled into our respective hotel rooms. To my great delight, I was sharing the room with Romy, the makeup artist I had befriended that afternoon. When I looked at her, I couldn't help but think of Moana from Disney studios; she had a striking resemblance. While chatting with her, I unpacked some of my belongings from my suitcase and took out a light, flowery summer yellow dress. Despite all the reasons that should convince me not to go, I had decided to join Tom tonight. I quickly jumped into the shower and then slipped into the beautiful dress. Spritzing some perfume, I finished off with a pair of comfortable canvas shoes. One last time, I adjusted my loose hair, and I was ready to go.
As I stepped out of the bathroom, I bumped into Romy, who looked at me with surprise.
"My dear, you're going out tonight, and I'm not invited?" she asked with a disappointed tone.
"It's nothing special, and I won't be gone for long! Oh, and if Georg asks where I am, cover for me!" I replied with a smile.
She quickly understood the situation and smiled back, asking me to take care of myself before I closed the door behind me. Joining the elevator, my heart was in turmoil. I had no idea what to expect from Tom. I didn't know if he was playing a prank on me or if, for once, he was serious. And what if he didn't show up after all? Anxious, I played with my fingers, and with each descending floor, my heart tightened with nervousness. I couldn't shake off the thought that he might not come. Yet, as the doors opened on the ground floor, I saw him sitting on the couch with his back to me. As the elevator made a noise, he turned around and stood up when he spotted me. His face lit up with a smile, and in response, my own smile bloomed. He had also taken the care to change into a simple and casual outfit - loose blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black beanie. As I approached him, his familiar scent filled my senses, and I savored the fragrance I liked so much. He takes a step back to look me up and down.
"Oh, beautiful dress you got here. So, you decided to come after all. I thought I was too much of a fool for you," Tom teased.
"Yes, I came just to see what you wanted to show me. Pure curiosity. Let's go quickly before we get caught. I don't want Georg to know I'm hanging out with you."
I retorted, heading towards the exit. We stepped outside, the yellow sun turning to a warm orange, painting the sky with a palette of vibrant colors. The gentle summer breeze caressed our faces, and we lost ourselves in the vibrant streets of Hamburg. I followed Tom closely, observing the surroundings - the beautiful German cafes and breweries, the lively terraces, and the dancing lights on the shop fronts. We got closer to the canal to walk alongside it. In the cobbled streets of Speicherstadt, red brick warehouses rose majestically on either side of the narrow canal. The soothing sound of water lapping against the banks was enough, and there was no need for conversation. I cherished this unique and picturesque spectacle. The reflections of the dancing lights in the canals created a dazzling, almost surreal, sight, making this moment timeless.
We walked side by side, and I inched closer to him until our hands accidentally brushed, causing my cheeks to flush with embarrassment. Tom, noticing my rosy cheeks, chuckled amusedly. As we continued walking, he leaned forward to better see my face. I lowered my head, looking at the ground to avoid his gaze and hid beneath my hair.
"You look adorable when you blush. Lift your head, Maya, we've arrived," he said in a gentle voice.
I raised my head, and my eyes filled with wonder as I saw the beautifully decorated boat, ready to take us on a ride along the canals of Speicherstadt.
