"I can't believe we won that award..." Sidney said, holding a glass of champagne in her hand. She was standing by the bar, leaning against the counter, watching the rest of her bandmates mingle with their fans.
"I can, we totally deserved it!" Vic said, a wide grin on her face.
"That was a great performance, by the way," Damon joined out of nowhere, placing his hand on the counter next to her.
"Thanks," she replied, turning to look at him. He looked a little uncomfortable, his eyes darting around the room, his shoulders hunched.
"So...how long has it been since you two have seen each other?" Vic asked, breaking the awkward silence.
"About ten years..." Sidney answered, taking another sip of her drink.
"Wow...that's a long time," Vic said, tilting her head to the side. Tension was building up again, all three of them trying to look at anything but each other.
"Well, I'm gonna..." She let her sentence trail off, pointing her thumb in the direction of the crowd and walking away.
"Hey, Sidney, what are you doing tomorrow night?" Damon finally asked, a certain shakiness in his voice.
"Oh, uh...nothing really. What about you guys?"
"Nothing much either. Why don't we grab dinner together? I'm sure the others will want to come as well," Damon suggested.
"Sure..." Sidney said, nodding. She wasn't exactly thrilled to go out with Damon, but she knew that she wouldn't be able to avoid him forever. She could feel her heart beating faster, her palms getting sweaty. This was the first time they were alone together, and it felt very awkward, despite the fact that they had known each other for so many years.
"So, how have you been? We haven't really had the chance to talk at all at the show..." Damon said as he rested his chin on his palm. Sidney shrugged, playing with the straw from her drink. She wasn't sure what to say. A part of her wanted to talk, a part of her wanted to tell him about her new career, her success, everything that had happened in her life. But another part of her wanted to keep all of that to herself. She looked up, meeting Damon's eyes once more. She could feel him watching her intently. The air was tense between them again. She noticed Damon's eyes drift to her lips.
"Good! Great, actually...my life really took an unexpected turn after I moved..."
"I knew you were extremely talented, but I never expected you to lead a band, to be honest. You're doing great, though. I'm sure people will love you," he placed his hand on her arm, giving it a gentle squeeze. She flinched a little at his touch, the electricity of his skin on hers shocking her body.
"What about you, Damon? How has stardom been treating you?"
"Please, you're making me laugh," he chuckled. "It's been alright, it feels nice to share my music with other people and see them actually enjoy it..." He turned his body to face her, blinking slowly as he analyzed her face, his hand still resting on his chin. "You know I...I really missed you..." he finally confessed, a hint of sadness in his voice. She couldn't help but notice the way his eyes started to shimmer a little as he spoke. Sidney swallowed hard, feeling the warmth of his skin on hers as he gently stroked the inside of her wrist. He was so close now, and she could feel the heat radiate off of him. She was so close to him now that she could hear his breath hitch in his throat, his heart pounding in his chest. Her pulse sped up at the thought of being this close to him, it felt so dangerous. Sidney carefully pulled away from Damon, biting the inside of her cheek. She was about to say something when she felt someone bump into her back, nearly spilling her drink all over her.
