Carl POV:

After leaving high school, I felt a strong urge to find a place where I could be alone, take some time to reflect on my actions and their consequences. I knew that place couldn't be my home. Instead, I found myself at Bluewhale Lake, located on the outskirts of town.

The trail leading to the lake was adorned with wildflowers and tall grass. As I walked along the path, I could hear the soothing sounds of nature surrounding me - the chirping of birds, rustling of leaves, and the gentle flow of water in the distance.

As I arrived at the lake, memories of joyful times with Mia and Jason flooded back. We used to visit this spot regularly, laughing and sharing stories while sitting on the wooden dock that extended into the water. Now, I sat alone at the edge of that same dock, gazing at my reflection in the water, confronting the person I had become without them.

With each passing moment, memories of the times I had spent with Mia came rushing back. The first time I laid my eyes on her was on the first day of freshman year, and that day stood out vividly in my mind.

Jason and I were filled with excitement about our new journey in high school as we walked down the hallway. It was then that she appeared before us like a vision - beautiful, enchanting, and beyond words to describe.

As she approached, she warmly greeted Jason with a smile, saying, "Hi Jason." I was taken aback, as I had no clue they knew each other. Jason replied, "Hi Mia, Oh, and you know him, right?" Mia swiftly responded, "Of course, it's Carl, isn't it?" I was utterly puzzled by how she knew my name.

Sensing my confusion, Mia continued, "Why are you looking like that? It's me, Mia. Remember when we used to play together with Mason and Jason when we were kids?" Despite her reassurance, I still couldn't recall her, and seeing my struggle, she added, "What, have you forgotten me, Carl?"

Jason quickly chimed in, "It's been so many years, right? How can he suddenly remember? Besides, he tends to forget things easily."

Mia retorted with genuine concern, "Is that so, Carl?" Caught in the act, I mustered a fake smile and replied, "Yes, he's right."

As the bell rang, Mia exclaimed in a hurry, "Okay, guys, we'll meet again. Bye!"

After she left, I turned to Jason and asked, "Do I really forget everyone easily?" Jason grinned and teasingly responded, "Well, what should I have told her? That you didn't remember her and hurt her feelings?"

"Yeah, you're right," I admitted, scratching my head. "But seriously, when did we ever play with her?"

Jason's eyes widened in disbelief, "Are you kidding? She lived right next to you during our childhood days, and you two were practically inseparable, always playing together."

As Jason mentioned that Mia used to live next to my house, a sudden jolt of realization hit me like a bolt of lightning. Memories of our childhood came rushing back, and it dawned on me that Mia was indeed the same person I had known by the name Mimi. No wonder I didn't recognize her at first when Jason mentioned Mia – the name I knew her by was different. But now everything falls into place, and I vividly remembered the time spent with her.

I turned to Jason, my face adorned with a wide grin, and exclaimed, "Can you believe it? It's really Mia! I can't believe I didn't recognize her at first!" Memories came flooding back, and excitement filled my voice.

Jason was taken aback by my sudden burst of happiness, and he tried to interrupt me, but my enthusiasm couldn't be contained. With my hands in the air, I loudly exclaimed, "Yes!" and hurriedly made my way to the classroom to find Mia.

Jason watched, astonished, as I dashed off, unable to contain my eagerness. When I entered the classroom, I was slightly out of breath but overjoyed to see Mia. Walking up to her with a beaming smile, I took a seat behind her and said, "You know, I finally remember who you are – Mia! I used to call you Mimi, didn't I? I'm so glad I figured it out!"

Mia was stunned for a moment, but then she turned around and playfully retorted, "You idiot! How many times have I told you to call me Mia instead of Mimi? But I'm glad you remembered me anyway!"

I was taken aback by Mia's response and said, "Oh, so it's not Mimi, but you know what, it suited you very well back then."

Mia gave me a fiery gaze, "No, it really didn't suit me, and honestly, I find it kind of lame now."

Curious, I asked, "But I've always wondered, why did you leave the town? I still remember that day when you gave me that beautiful drawing of us together."

Mia was shocked by my memory and replied, "I left the town because my father wanted to start a business in the city. It's unbelievable that you still remember that day when I gave you the drawing."

With a smile, I replied, "How could I ever forget that day? It's the day I last saw you, right?"

I noticed Mia blushing, and she quickly turned around, smiling at what I said. But just then, our teacher's voice interrupted, "Have you two completed your discussion? If so, can I start the class now?"

Both of us sheepishly apologized, "I'm sorry, sir."

From that day on, Mia and I started as friends and eventually became lovers. However, starting this summer, I began pushing her away whenever she tried to help, and today was no different. Once again, I hurt her by leaving her behind.

As thoughts of her occupied my mind, a sudden voice from behind startled me – it was my mom calling out, "Carl, I've been looking for you since morning! Come on, let's go home. We have a lot to discuss about what you did this morning."

As we got into the car, I couldn't help but wonder how my mom found me. "How did you even know I was here?"

With a serious tone, my mom explained, "Well, your principal called me and told me what you did. I've been trying to find you everywhere, and when I called Mia, she told me where you might be."

"What? So Mia told you I would be here?" I replied, taken aback.

"Yes," my mom confirmed, leaving me stunned. Despite everything I had put her through, Mia still cared about me, and I wished I could talk to her again.
