Trixie watched as the happy goblin, waving with glee, disappeared into his quaint little shop. She wondered if Mini would be ok, but was more concerned for the Knight, who didn't look pleased.
"Stupid scrying mirror." He said, holding the small ornate mirror in his hand, fighting the urge to throw it at the ground. The rose Trixie had tied to his helmet still swayed as he moved, it was hard for Trixie to keep from chuckling.
"What's scrying?" Trixie asked, "It sounds like crying, does the mirror cry?"
The knight looked at her, even through his helmet Trixie could feel his confusion.
"N-no, it lets you see someone from far away." He replied, looking at the mirror once more. There was silence for a moment before the knight handed Trixie the mirror, still looking at the ground, "Take it. Find your friend."
Trixie hesitantly took the mirror. She didn't even know how to use it, but the knight seemed to know how it worked. She stared into the mirror, seeing only her reflection.
"I hope Orlan is ok." She said to herself, out loud, after a brief moment.
The mirror suddenly began to shine a bright pink light, which grew brighter and brighter until Trixie could barely see. Then the light dissipated, leaving an image in the mirror. She could see him, Orlan, riding on the shoulders of some person, but the image created by the mirror wasn't clear enough to see any faces, and Trixie was left with a few more questions than she'd previously had.
The knight quickly snatched the mirror back, snapping Trixie out of her thoughts. He frantically turned and spun the mirror in several directions, attempting in vain to see what Trixie had seen.
"Aahg! I just wanna know who the shapeshifter is, show me!!" He shouted at the mirror in defeat, but soon his cries were answered. The pink light shined once more, but this time the image was clearly visible.
In the mirror, as he beckoned Trixie to see as well, was the sight of an amorphous creature, large and blubberous, bending and twisting, until the face of a townsperson appeared. The creature had taken the form of one of the residents, and now they knew which one.
They quickly scrambled to the center fountain, located the house the first man had come from, and began cautiously but quickly making their way in that direction. They were stopped, however, by the visage of the man they'd met before.
"Mistless eve, child!" The man called, waving at Trixie as they walked by, he was standing by the town bell, which stood at its center. The bell actually consisted of hundreds of small cylinder shaped metal pieces, all tied to strings and hung from a single center point.
The man spoke once more as they approached, "Would you and your friend be interested in joining my family for dinner tonight?"
Trixie and the knight stopped, both taken by surprise at the sudden gesture, and gave each other a glance. They looked at the man and gave contradictory responses. Trixie nodded yes, excited to be eating something, but the knight rejected the offer and resigned himself to stay by Trixie's side. As they walked, led by the man, they passed the building they were heading towards before, just two houses left of the shop. A quick glance inside by the knight, with Trixie a bit too preoccupied asking the man about food, revealed the building to be empty. The knight suddenly became very suspicious of the man currently leading them, but kept quiet as they were led to the front door.
He opened the door, gesturing for them to enter. They stepped through the threshold, into an empty foyer, and on into the living room, followed closely behind by the man. The interior of the house was well decorated, but the man's family was nowhere in sight, and he continued to gesture them forward into the dining area.
